For the first time free canteens for farmers have been opened in Odisha near paddy procurement centers to provide lunch to those who bring their produce from distant villages. The canteens have been set up in Gajapati district and at least four such canteens have been opened at Paralakhemundi, Kashinagar, Upalada and Garabandh, a district administration official said on Monday. Vegetable meals prepared by the women self help groups (WSHGs) of the areas are being served to the farmers at the free canteens being run by the Paralakhemundi regulated market committee (RMC), Gajapati collector Lingraj Panda said. "We have launched the canteen system to provide free lunch to farmers who come to the procurement centers with their produce and cannot return home for their meal," Panda said. Maha farmers to get 500,000 solar pumps under Kusum Yojana: Dy CM

The Maharashtra government plans to provide solar pumps to five lakh farmers under the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday. Speaking in the Legislative Council, he said the state government intended to generate income by leasing out land to install such solar pumps. He also said farmers from Vidarbha region will get new agricultural pumps and electricity connections on priority, while pending applications will be cleared by March next year. In order to provide uninterrupted and affordable electricity to consumers, the Union government has announced the implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), for which a sum of Rs 39,000 crore has been approved for Maharashtra, he said. This will give a major boost to creation of infrastructure in the sector in the state, he added. Under the Kusum Yojana, farmers are being given 90 per cent subsidy for installation of solar power pumps.

Land compensation to farmers up, flat registry scheme soon: Noida Authority

The Noida Authority on Wednesday announced a hike in land purchase rate from farmers to Rs 5,324 per square metres from the existing Rs 5,060 per square metres. Mumbai: Fake currency notes of Rs 80 lakh face value seized, farmer held

The Mumbai Police have arrested a 31-year-old farmer and seized from him 16,000 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination with the face value of Rs 80 lakh in suburban Powai, an official said on Wednesday. The seizure was made by the crime branch on Monday, he said. "The crime branch got a tip-off that a gang was active in circulating fake notes. A trap was laid and the accused was nabbed. Police seized 160 bundles of Rs 500 fake currency notes from him," the official said. During the probe, it was found that the accused farmer wanted to become rich in a short time and hence he was indulging in this. It is being ascertained how many fake notes he circulated in the market. The accused was arrested under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), including forgery and planning. He was produced in a court, which remanded him in police custody till January 4. More persons are likely to be arrested and further investigation is underway, the official added.

Farmers have been paid claims worth Rs 1,25,662 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana since its inception in 2016, the government said on Thursday. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), the agriculture ministry said, the government is committed to provide comprehensive insurance coverage against crop loss on account of non-preventable natural risks.
