Rs 11,141 crore paid to wheat farmers as MSP in UP in 20-21: Govt

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has said that the government has paid Rs 11,141.28 crore to the farmers as MSP in Uttar Pradesh as the state records highest ever procurement of wheat. It said, 58 per cent more wheat was procured in rabi marketing season (RMS) 2021-22 in Uttar Pradesh as compared to RMS 2020-21.

With an increasing investors' interest for the agri-tech and agri-ecosystem sectors, a report has estimated that over USD 30-35 billion of the value pool will be created across agricultural value chain by 2025. The Indian agricultural sector is at the cusp of a disruption based on technology, regulation, investment and stakeholder, and estimates indicate that approximately USD 30-35 billion of the value pool will be created in agri-logistics, offtake and agri-input delivery by 2025, according to global consultancy Bain & Company's "Indian Agriculture: Ripe for Disruption" report. "We are at a key moment when we can leapfrog from the traditional methods to a new, technology-friendly way of growing, processing and selling food. BJP president J P Nadda Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done more for the interest of farmers than what was done in the past 70 years. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said farmers across the country are suffering due to the Centre's indifference, and vowed to fight for the welfare of the "very backbone" of society. Banerjee also said the day marked the 10th year of the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill that was passed in the assembly after a "long struggle". "Today, it pains me that across the nation our farmer brethren are suffering owing to the indifference of the Centre.
