Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday did not get a chance to speak at the virtual meeting of governors, chief ministers and lieutenant governors chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussion on various aspects of India's G20 presidency, a senior official here said. Banerjee, who had readied documents detailing Bengal's preparations for the G20 summit, "could not utter a single word" at the virtual meeting, the official, who also attended it, stated. "The CM was not given a chance to speak at the meeting. She had with her a set of documents on the state government's preparation for the G20 programmes, which are to be held in West Bengal," the official told PTI. Modi, during the meeting, emphasised the importance of teamwork and sought the cooperation of states and Union Territories in organising G-20 events, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement. BJP's Sushil Modi slams Bihar CM for skipping all-party meeting on G20

The BJP on Tuesday slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for skipping the all-party meeting convened by the Centre to solicit suggestions for the G20 summit which will be held in India next year. Kumar's decision to "boycott" the all-party meeting in the national capital on Monday, is "against the government's protocols", senior BJP leader and Bihar's former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said in a video statement. "Since Kumar ditched the BJP and the PM twice in the past and joined hands with the 'grand alliance', he (Kumar) could not muster the courage to face the PM or attend the all-party meet," the BJP leader said. Even JD(U) president Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, did not attend the PM's meeting, he said. Now the CM must clarify whether he will attend meetings of the engagement groups of G-20 scheduled to be held in Patna in March or not," Sushil Kumar Modi said. The BJP leader also asked, "As per protocol, the CM should receive the PM at

G20 summit: Chinese President Jinping, Canadian PM Trudeau exchange barbs

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday exchanged barbs on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali over the leaked reports of their meeting. In perhaps a very rare open remark captured on television camera, an agitated Xi was seen objecting to Trudeau saying whatever they discussed in their earlier meeting was leaked to the media. "Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper, that's not appropriate," Xi told Trudeau through a translator on the sidelines of the closing session of the G20 meeting. "That is not how the way the conversation was conducted," he said. Xi spoke in Chinese which his official interpreter conveyed in English to Trudeau. But 50-year-old Trudeau, who looked impatient, interrupted the translator, saying: We believe in free and open and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have. We will continue to look to work constructively together but there will be things we will disagree on." For which, ...
