Crops heavily damaged due to unseasonal rains: Union minister Tomar

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday said crops suffered heavy damage due to unseasonal rains, which is a fallout of climate change. He said state governments are assessing losses incurred by farmers due to heavy rains in their respective regions. Speaking on the sidelines of an event in Pune, Tomar said the income of farmers should be increased and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fully committed to this goal. "No one has control over natural calamities. Climate change is being witnessed due to which unseasonal rains occur in one place while other region sees drought. Heavy rains: Lucknow, other UP districts order closure of schools on Monday

Several districts of Uttar Pradesh have declared holiday for all schools on Monday in view of heavy rains. District authorities in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Mathura, Kanpur, Etah, Mainpuri and Firozabad have ordered closure of schools. All Noida schools to stay closed on Monday following heavy rains

All schools across Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar will stay close on Monday on account of excessive rainfall, according to an official order. The closure will be applicable for all classes up to 12th and to all schools across boards, the order stated. "Due to excessive rain in the district and keeping in view the possibility of excessive rain, the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar has declared a holiday on October 10 (Monday) in government, semi-government aided and unaided recognized schools of all the boards operating from class 1 to 12 of the district," District School Inspector Dharamveer Singh said. The national capital reeled under traffic snarls and waterlogging woes with several key road stretches dotted with puddles of water as incessant rains lashed the city for a second consecutive day Friday. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Saturday as well, cautioning people about moderate rain at most places in Delhi while heavy rains are expected at a couple of locations. The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's primary weather station, recorded 58.5 mm of precipitation against a normal of 108.5 mm between September 1 and September 22 (Thursday morning). More rain likely in Odisha as low-pressure area may form over Bay of Bengal

Odisha may receive heavy rain next week as a low-pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, the Met office said on Friday. Maharashtra: Heavy rains lash Thane, Palghar; low-lying areas inundated

Heavy rains lashed Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra on Friday, flooding several low-lying areas in the region, an official said. Heavy downpour leads to water-logging at several places in Hyderabad

Traffic jams and water-logging was reported at several places in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening following heavy rain. Macha Bollaram at Alwal received 91.9 mm of rainfall, followed by LB Nagar (84.3 mm), Dabeerpura near Charminar (77.5 mm) and Mailardevpally (71.3 mm) from 8.30 am to 8 pm today, according to official data. Worst not over for Bengaluru; IMD says heavy rain likely for next two days

While flood waters receded in some parts of Bengaluru on Wednesday, the worst is not over for IT capital yet, with the weather bureau predicting heavy rainfall over south interior Karnataka, including the city, for the next two days.
