The Uttarakhand Cabinet will have its meeting for the first time in afloating restaurant on the Tehri lake here tomorrow to promote the picturesque location as a tourist destination. The Cabinet meeting will be unique as it will be held in floating Marina on Tehri lake, an official at the CMO said. Couple killed as motorcycle falls into river
A couple was killed today when their motorcycle fell into a river on the Chamiyala-Ghansali motor road in the Bhilangana area of Tehri district, an official said. Dinesh Singh (32) and his wife Babita Devi (27) were returning from a bank after withdrawing money when their vehicle collided with a mini bus coming from the opposite direction, Ghansali SDM Fincharam Chauhan said. The motorcycle rolled down about 200 metres into the Bal Ganga river flowing underneath, killing the couple on the spot, he said. With the help of locals, police recovered the body of the man but his wife's body has not been sighted yet, Chauhan added.
Which eateries in Hauz Khas Village are near protected monuments: HC seeks details from ASI
The Delhi High Court today directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to apprise it of all the restaurants in south Delhi's Hauz Khas Village that are located within prohibited distance of a protected monument. The information about the eateries which exist near protected monument was sought by a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar after the ASI said it had taken action against properties which were located in the prohibited zone, but could not give specific details or names of the restaurants. Noting that the status report filed by ASI was "accompanied by incomprehensible documents", the court directed it to file an affidavit indicating the restaurants in the Hauz Khas Village that fall in the prohibited area according to the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act. The bench also directed the ASI to ensure it inspects every restaurant in the area and listed the matter for further hearing on May 21. The directions came during

Xia Boyu, a 69-year-old hit by frostbite on Everest over four decades ago, and Steve Plain, who was nearly paralysed by an accident four years ago, were among the first to summit the world's highest mountain. Plain also set a new world record with his ascent, becoming the fastest climber to summit each of the highest peaks on Earth's seven continents. Emirates hosts $2.7 million race for traditional dhow ships
The United Arab Emirates has hosted a $2.7 million traditional dhow racing event, which saw the wooden boats powered only on the wind race off the coast of Dubai. The Al-Gaffal Traditional Dhow Race happens every year and celebrates the dhow, which is a style of boat still used in the region. The race began today on Sir Bu Nair Island, which is about 100 kilometers west of Dubai. The ships gathered at dawn and the race began. It lasted about five hours and the finish line saw racers arrive near the iconic sailed-shaped Burj al-Arab hotel. The winners in this year's contest was a team on a boat called the Ghazi, owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai.
