Leading millers today asked food regulator FSSAI to develop a standard operating procedure to tackle the issue of circulation of malicious videos related to the food industry which may plague consumers trust. The millers sought a proactive role of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in this regard and industry body FICCI would help develop a mechanism to tackle such issues. Kerala expects to double the arrival of foreign tourists and almost 50 per cent growth in domestic tourists in five years, which may contribute between 15-20 per cent to the state's revenue, a top official said. To promote it as a top destination among the foreign visitors and domestic tourists, Kerala Tourism has revamped fare with an array of new tourism products. "We have a target to double the number of arrival of foreign tourists and 50% in domestic tourists in five years," said Kerala Tourist Information Officer Muraleedharan P. The state has also formed a tourism regulatory authority, which would help put a stop to any unhealthy practices and guarantee better intervention of the Tourism Department through scrutiny and a licensing system. Scott Doolan, 28, sets out today for Mount Everest's base camp, which lies 5,364 metres above sea level and is traditionally only accessible on foot or by helicopter. He is out to prove that it is also accessible to wheelchair users. Doolan will be using a specially designed wheelchair with mountain bike wheels when the trails allow, but thinks he will mostly be on his hands with a friend holding his legs in a move he's dubbed "wheelbarrowing". The Tamil Nadu government would soon set up mega food parks that would lead to creation of jobs in rural areas of the state, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said today. In addition to the proposed Mega food parks, an 'Ultra Mega Food Park' would also be set up on a 450-acre land at Pelakuppam village in Villupuram district, he said during his budget speech in the Assembly here. The mega food parks would evolve as hubs for food processing in fruits and vegetables, fisheries, dairy, poultry and meat by encouraging private investment and are expected to generate substantial employment in rural areas, he noted. The Mega Food Parks would be established in Theni, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Erode, Cuddalore, Salem, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai and Krishnagiri districts. Women stay physically fit at middle age are nearly 90 per cent less likely to develop dementia decades later, a study has found. When the highly fit women did develop dementia, they developed the disease an average of 11 years later than women who were moderately fit, or at age 90 instead of age 79, researchers said. "These findings are exciting because it's possible that improving people's cardiovascular fitness in middle age could delay or even prevent them from developing dementia," said Helena Horder, of the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. However, more research is needed to see if improved fitness could have a positive effect on the risk of dementia and also to look at when during a lifetime a high fitness level is most important, said Horder.
