Delhi Metro authorities have taken action against the consultant and engineers involved in executing the Airport Express Metro Line for alleged lapses, including providing 'unfit' track fittings for the project, the government told Rajya Sabha today. In a written reply to a question, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has informed the ministry that the track fittings provided by concessionaire are "not fit" for trains to be run at more than 80 kmph, even though the prescribed limit on the metro line is 120 kmph. The DMRC, however, has informed the ministry that irregularities have not been found in the terms and conditions of the Delhi Airport Express Metro Line. Japan has lifted travel advisories issued to its citizens visiting the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad said today. "The Raj Bhavan received a communication from the Japanese Embassy on that the Government of Japan has lowered the level of travel advisory for East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts. This will open up Meghalaya's four districts to Japanese visitors and tourists and enhance the people-to-people contacts as well as economic exchanges between Japan and Meghalaya, Prasad said in a statement. The decision was taken as a follow up of the requests made by the governor to the Ambassador of Japan when he met him here on May 7, the statement said. Indian travellers are preferring domestic destinations over the international ones, with 68 per cent hotel searches made for cities within the country, a report by travel search engine Kayak said today. International destinations, on the other hand, got just 32 per cent share in hotel searches, it added. Puducherry was found to be the most preferred domestic destination, with a 250 per cent year-on-year increase in hotel searches. Calangute in Goa is close behind, with a 201 per cent increase, while other trending destinations include Coorg in Karnataka and Munnar in Kerala. New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru were the most popular hotel destinations for short stays (one-three days), it said.
