Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi have named their daughter Mehr Dhupia Bedi. The couple welcomed the little one, their first child together, on November 18. 100-year-old WWII veteran awarded French Legion of Honor
The French government has awarded its highest honour to a 100-year-old Kentucky man who fought in World War II. Retired Lt. Col. William Pollard was awarded the French Legion of Honor on Monday during a ceremony at the Kentucky Capitol. Consul General of France Guillaume Lacroix pinned the medal on Pollard, calling him "a true French hero". Pollard was 25 in 1944 when he landed on Omaha Beach as part of the allied invasion of German-occupied France. He rescued 14 soldiers from a concrete caisson that was hit by enemy fire, according to his son, William Pollard Jr. In a written statement read by his son, Pollard said he was honoured to receive the award and his thoughts were with his late wife and the many soldiers he served with.

She will get a cash prize of Rs 51,000, a citation and a memento, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) with the Jharkhand Assembly Secretariat, Gulam M Sarfaraz, said here on Monday. He said a selection committee, headed by Speaker Dinesh Oraon, met on Monday and decided that Sardar would be the recipient of the award this year. Campaigners are urging governments and businesses to invest more to improve sanitation in poor countries facing a dangerous shortage of toilets. The toilet crisis is severe in parts of Africa and Asia battling extreme poverty. To mark World Toilet Day Monday, the group WaterAid said that one in five primary schools and one in eight secondary schools globally do not have any toilets. According to the report, an estimated 344 million children in sub-Saharan Africa do not have a decent toilet at home, leaving them vulnerable to diarrhea and other water-borne infections. Cheryl Hicks, chief executive of the Geneva-based Toilet Board Coalition, told The Associated Press that sanitation entrepreneurs can help reduce the toilet shortage in countries where such infrastructure is too expensive for governments.

Complete works of National Salt Satyagraha Memorial by December: CPWD to its officials
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has directed its officials to complete civic works of the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial being built at Dandi in Gujarat by the end of this year. In his letter to Union Cultural Secretary Arun Goel, CPWD Director General Prabhakar Singh sought early release of funds to the agency so that there is no "bottleneck" in progress of works. The memorial, which commemorates the historic Dandi March of 1930 against the salt tax, is expected to open for the public by January. According to the CPWD, a constituent of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, the memorial works are in its final stage. Singh requested the cultural ministry to take up the issue of operation and maintenance with the state government once civil works are completed, besides development of surrounding areas since the memorial complex of 15 acre in isolation would not project "desired level of attraction".
