Sindhutai Sapkal to get award for social service

Noted social worker Sindhutai Sapkal, fondly called as the "Mother of Orphans", has been chosen for the 'Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar Narishakti Puraskar' for her contribution in the service of humanity. Sakpal, 69, would be presented the award at a ceremony to be held on October 14 here in Maharashtra, the function organisers told reporters Tuesday. The Pune-based activist has adopted more than 1,000 orphan children over her long career, and has received several awards for her social service.

A man has allegedly sent a Talaq notice from Mumbai to his 18-year-old wife living in Bareilly.Relating the trauma and torture she had to undergo, Nida told the media that she got married in October last year when, she claimed, she was 17."I was beaten when I was four months pregnant and was thrown out of the house. Noted Malayalam poet Paloor passes away

: Well-known Malayalam poet M N Paloor passed away at his residence at Kovoor here Tuesday, family sources said. The 86-year old poet, recipient of various honours including the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award, passed away due to age-related ailments, they added. Paloor, one of the early poets to have modern views, is the author of some of the finest Malayalam poems of the latter half of the 20th century. His poems traced the sufferings of mankind involving all the complexities of a highly urbanised system. Some of his major collections include 'Kalikalam', 'Pedithondan', 'Theerthayathra'and 'Bhangiyum Abhangiyum'. He also received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his autobiography 'Kathayillathavante Katha' in 2013. Paloor won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, the state's highest literary honour, in 1983 for his collection 'Kalikalam'. Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan condoled his death.

Patient among 3 killed as ambulance hits tractor-trolley in MP

Three people, including a patient, were killed and four others injured Tuesday when an ambulance in which they were travelling rammed into a tractor- trolley here in Madhya Pradesh, police said. The ambulance was heading from Sabalgarh town here to Gwalior when it hit the tractor-trolley parked on a roadside near Mukunda village on Morena-Shivpuri road, sub-divisional officer of police Sudhir Kushwaha said. The deceased were identified as Rambabu Dhakad (47), who was being taken to hospital, his mother Rambati (70) and ambulance driver Salman (49), he said. Four other family members of the patient also received injuries in the mishap, Kushwaha said. Dhakad had got burnt during some work at his home and was referred by doctors to a hospital at Gwalior for treatment, he said. A case has been registered in connection with the incident, he added.
