A 7-month-old female tiger cub died in the Tata Steel Zoological Park, a Tata Steel statement said. The cub died at the zoo on Sunday afternoon, the statement said yesterday. It was born on August 23 last year and was put under symptomatic treatment for Babesiosis, it said. According to Oxford Dictionaries, Babesiosis is a disease of cattle and other livestock, transmitted by the bite of ticks. It affects the red blood cells and causes the passing of red or blackish urine. The disease is caused by protozoans of the genus Babesia, phylum Sporozoa. A post-mortem examination was carried out by a team of veterinarians, including the consultant of the zoo V K Singh, in presence of a forest department official and two senior officials of the zoo, the statement added. Currently, the Tata Steel Zoological Park has five tigers, it said.

Four children drowned in a village tank Kothagudem district of Telangana today, police said. The children, two of them aged ten and the others 12, went for a swim in the tank at Sayamma Cheruu around 1 pm when the mishap occurred, they said. The bodies of the children, all residents of Bommanapally village, were noticed by the locals this evening. This is second such drowning incident in the state in the last two days. Five members of a family, including three children, allegedly drowned in a tank during a visit to attend the marriage of one of their relatives in neighbouring Medak District yesterday.
Over 400 schools in England were today targeted with bomb hoax emails that claimed a device would be detonated on the grounds unless online payments were made to an address. Scotland Yard said the malicious communications were under investigation but ruled out any threat to life. These are currently being treated as hoaxes. At this stage there is no evidence to suggest that this is terror-related, the Metropolitan Police said. Schools in London, Manchester, Northumbria and North Yorkshire were among those that received the email, which demanded 5,000 USD and warned against calling the police. British police say no sign of forced entry has been found at the home where a London-based Russian businessman died from a neck compression. Metropolitan Police Commander Clarke Jarrett said Monday the forensic investigation into the death of businessman Nikolai Glushkov is continuing. Glushkov, 68, was found dead at his south London home on March 12. The 68-year-old Glushkov was an associate of Boris Berezovsky, a Kremlin critic who died under disputed circumstances in 2013. Police have said they do not see a link between the Glushkov case and the recent poisoning of an ex-spy and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury.

A bomb threat call to the airport here turned out to be a hoax and two persons have been arrested in this connection, police said today. The call was received at the police control room last night with the caller claiming that one Sakthi Saravanan had told him that he was going to plant a bomb at the international terminal here, they said. The information was immediately passed on to airport police and a probe revealed that the threat was a hoax, police said. The telephone call was traced to Pallikaranai area here and in a swift action a special team nabbed two persons-- identified as Deepu Anand, who made the call, and his friend Sakthi Saravanan, within an hour. A 25-year-old lioness has died due to multi-organ failure at the Bannerghatta Biological Park here, authorities said today. The lioness had a history of rectal prolapse and was treated for it in January. It developed the same problem yesterday and died during treatment, the BBP said. The post-mortem revealed that death was due to multiple growth in the lungs and multi-organ failure, a BBP release said. The lioness was brought to Bengaluru from Sangli zoo in Maharashtra in July 2001.

The old Panju railway bridge between Naigaon and Bhayander here was damaged after a dredger hit its piers while going beneath it, police said today. The incident happened in the evening on Saturday when a dredger called "Sea King" was passing under the bridge while the water level in the creek was high, police said. The British-era bridge was decommissioned by the railways some years ago and therefore the mishap did not affect railway traffic in any way, the official added. "Vasai police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and the Indian Railway Act. No arrest has been made so far and investigations are underway," a police official informed.
