Notice served to BJP MLA for beating up Dalits

Rudrapur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Rajkumar Thakral has been served a notice by the party for beating up Dalit men and women, the Uttrakhand State BJP President Ajay Bhatt confirmed.A few days ago, an absconding couple's family had sought the MLA's help to find them. The couple was found and brought to the MLA's house when verbal spats between the families broke out.Thakral lost his cool on the spur of the moment and started assaulting the couple, and various members of the family who came to their aid. A man recording the incident on his phone was also beaten up by the erratic MLA, according to eyewitnesses.He also hurled numerous casteist and derogatory slurs at the Dalits."I went to the MLA's house to check on my sister when I got there, a fight had broken out with the MLA abusing and beating up members of my family. Muslim woman lodges complaint against husband

A 26-year-old Muslim woman here has lodged a complaint against her husband, days after he allegedly "divorced" her and sent the document to her house by post, police said today. In the police complaint lodged yesterday, the woman accused her 31-year-old husband of "mentally and physically torturing" her ever since they got married in December last year, a police official said. Following the complaint, a case was registered under IPC sections 417, 420 (punishment for cheating) and 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) against the man, who runs an auto-rickshaw, police said. The woman alleged tha that her husband, without the her knowledge or that ofher parents, got their signatures on some documents (divorce declaration documents) in the last week of February. Hyderabad's Anindith Reddy was crowned FMSCI National Motor Sports Person of the Year' at a glittering function here on Sunday. Superstar Rajinikanth reaches Jammu as part of spiritual pilgrimage

Superstar Rajinikanth today reached here as part of his annual 15-day spiritual pilgrimage to Himalayas and paid obeisance at Shivkhori, a famous cave shrine devoted to Lord Shiva, in Reasi district. Nick Ut the main attraction of the Photo feast

World renowned photographer Nick Ut was the main attraction at the second edition of the Kerala International Photo Fest that ended here today. Nick Ut, who took the iconic picture of a girl fleeing from exploding napalam bombs in Vietnam in 1972, was honoured with the First International Photographer Award instituted by the Kerala Media Academy during the festival that began on March 8. Ut, who retired from Associated Press in 2017, took part at a seminar and photo workshop organised for photographers of the state. The Pulitzer award winner, who was in the city for the past four days, also found time to go around the city and shoot some pictures of the vendors at Palayam market and also nearby places. Four pilgrims from Kerala killed on way to Tirupati

Four pilgrims from Kerala, including a woman, were killed and six of their relatives injured today after their vehicle rammed a speeding bus at Madhavan Thopu, about 85 km from here, police said. The mishap occurred when the driver of the pilgrims sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed the private bus coming from the opposite direction while trying to overtake a truck, police said. The pilgrims from Kumbala in Kerala's Kasaragod district were on their way to Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala here. All the injured have been admitted to hospital and their condition is stable, police said.
