As per the marriage rules for expatriates in UAE, a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman but a Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim man. A 48-year-old cyclist from Satara in western Maharashtra died Saturday morning after his cycle crashed into a truck on Pune-Satara Road. Dr Sandeep Lele, the deceased, was a noted orthodontist and one of the founders of Satara Hills Marathon. According to police, the incident took place near a toll booth on the outskirts of Satara city when Lele was returning home after cycling around 6 am. "A truck ahead of him suddenly stopped and Dr Lele's cycle crashed into its rear," said a police official. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to head injuries during treatment, the official said.

A presiding officer died after reaching his designated polling station under Nilagiri assembly segment in Balasore district on Saturday, officials said. The deceased, identified as Purna Chandra Panda, died at a booth in Ajodhya village under Nilagiri police station limits. Balasore district assistant collector Rakesh Panda said, "Purna Chandra Panda was deputed as presiding officer at polling station no 28. He suddenly became ill and rushed to Balasore district headquarters hospital where doctor declared him dead." The exact reason of his death was not yet ascertained. Panda and other personnel of the polling team had reached the booth to conduct voting in Nilagiri assembly segment and Balasore Lok Sabha seat on April 29.

A watchman of a nationalised bank was arrested near here in Goa Saturday for allegedly filming women employees by placing a mobile phone in the toilet, police said. The accused Subhash Dalbir Singh was working at Calapur, police inspector Jivba Dalvi said, adding that he had joined only a 17 days back. Dalvi said a woman employee of the bank spotted the mobile phone hidden behind a mop near the wash basin in the bank washroom. "She found that a video recording was going on. In a video clip, she saw Singh planting the mobile phone in the toilet," Dalvi said. Police booked the accused under section 354-C (Voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the police officer said.
Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu Saturday said all unauthorised constructions will be either sealed or brought down in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. "I have started scrutiny of constructions in Srinagar city, including commercial, institutional and residential properties. I have identified around 50 structures in phase one which are completely unauthorised or have major deviations. I have given orders that every unauthorised or illegal construction in Srinagar city be sealed immediately," the mayor told reporters here. He said illegal structures, irrespective of political patronage, will be sealed. "The field-level staff will be held accountable in their respective areas. We can procure equipment from outside to bring down multi-storey structures. Encroachments will also not be spared," he said.
