The official said IGP Punjab Usman Anwar has taken notice of the matter and ordered strict action against the cops in question. "There is no room for negligence when it comes to the security of

Afghanistan men's cricket team captain Hashmatullah Shahidi made it clear on Tuesday that women in his country should be allowed to play the game though he said it was beyond his control in a nation governed by strict religious laws. The Taliban took over the reins of Afghanistan in 2021 and banned women's sports, including cricket. "Yeah, everyone likes to see everyone play," Shahid told the media here when asked if the exiled Afghanistan women's team should be allowed to play the game. "As I said before, when it comes to politics and those things which we cannot control - we are only cricket players we can control things in the ground and we belong to the ground and we are always trying to give our best when we play." Several Afghan women's team cricketers shifted base to Australia following the turmoil in their country. All-rounder Michael Bracewell picking up wickets in the middle phase of the game with his slow bowling was key to New Zealand's five-wicket victory in their Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh here on Monday, believed skipper Mitchell Santner. The positive result for New Zealand ensured their semifinals berth in the tournament along with India, while knocking out hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh from the mega event. Rachin Ravindra (112) and Michael Bracewell (4/26) were the two stars for New Zealand on the night. "Feels nice to qualify. Knew Bangladesh would be a challenge," Santner said in the post-match presentation ceremony. "The way we pulled things back with the ball was amazing. Hard to take middle-overs wickets in ODIs and Bracewell was amazing. He's a quality bowler now, the way he can change his pace on these wickets is outstanding. Bowls a lot to right-handers too," the captain added. He was also effusive in his praise for Ravindra who anchored the chase of 237 after
Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting said he has not seen a "better player" than Virat Kohli in ODIs, and backed the Indian batting star to go past legendary Sachin Tendulkar as the highest run-getter in the 50-over format. Kohli made an exceptional unbeaten 100, his 51st in ODIs, to guide India to a six-wicket win over Pakistan in a Champions Trophy match here on Sunday. "I don't think I've ever seen a better 50-over player than Virat Kohli. Now that he's gone past me (in run-maker's list) and only two (batters) ahead of him, I'm sure he would want to give himself the best chance to be remembered as the all-time leading run scorer in the game, Ponting told ICC Review. During the course of that hundred, Kohli went past the 14000-run mark in one-dayers, joining former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara and Tendulkar in a rare club. Kohli (14085 runs) is still 4,341 runs behind Tendulkar (18426) and at 36, the champion batter has limited time in his hand to overhaul the latter's

Pakistan suffered their second consecutive loss in the event on Sunday. They had lost to New Zealand in the opener and their chances of advancing are now hanging by a thread. "I am not disappointed at all (by the defeat to India) because I knew what would happen," Akhtar said in a short video on his X account. "You can't select five bowlers? the whole world is playing six bowlers you go with two all-rounders, this is just brainless and clueless management." The former quick blamed the management for selecting a side that lacked the necessary skills and understanding to compete at the highest level. "I am really disappointed. We can't blame the kids (Pakistan players); The players are just as clueless as the team management is! They d
