Bengaluru breaks 133-year record for single day rainfall in June: IMD

Bengaluru received 111 mm rainfall on June 2, breaking the 133-year record for the highest ever rainfall in a single day in June, Met department officials said. N Puviarasan, a scientist at India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru, confirmed to PTI that June 2 witnessed the highest single day rainfall in June in 133 years. He also said the rainfall received on June 1 and June 2 alone 140.7 mm surpassed the monthly average for June. According to 'X' user @Bnglweatherman, as per IMD, June 2 recorded 111 mm, which crossed the June month average of 110.3 mm, in a single day. He further said the highest single day rainfall in June was recorded on June 16, 1891. The intense rain also brought Bengaluru to a standstill at many places, particularly in Jayanagar from where residents posted pictures of fallen trees on social media. Heatwave intensity will reduce in parts of India in next three days: IMD

A reduction in the intensity of heatwave conditions is likely in the country over the next three days, the weather office said on Sunday. Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh was the hottest in the country with a maximum temperature of 46.2 degrees Celsius. Sirsa in Haryana and Ganganagar in Rajasthan sizzled at 45.4 degrees Celsius followed by Jhansi and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh which recorded 45.2 degrees Celsius each, and Prithvipur in Madhya Pradesh and Bhiwani in Haryana at 45.1 degrees. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said heat wave conditions over northwest, central and east India were likely to continue with reduced intensity during the next three days. The maximum temperature in the national capital settled at 42.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal for the season. Kerala receives moderate rainfall; IMD sounds orange alert in 5 districts

Various districts in Kerala received moderate rains on Wednesday, even as the weather office forecast very heavy rainfall in five districts of the state in the coming hours. As per the latest update of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam were placed under an orange alert, predicting "very heavy rains" in these districts today. The red alert issued in Ernakulam and Kottayam districts on Tuesday was withdrawn. At the same time, Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, and Thrissur districts were placed under yellow alert, the IMD added. Moderate rainfall is expected at one or two places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, and light rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts in the coming hours, it said.
