India and the US will have a bilateral meeting during the G20 events in Goa during which both sides will seek to boost cooperation in the tourism sector, officials said on Sunday. Indian-origin man Preet Vikal jailed for nearly 7 years for rape in Wales

A 20-year-old Indian-origin man has been sentenced to six years and nine months' imprisonment in the Welsh capital of Cardiff after admitting raping a woman in the city. UN Convention needs to define concept of reasonable opportunity, says India

India has said that the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities (CRPD) provides the concept of reasonable opportunity but it is required to be defined properly as it is culminating in the proportionate opportunity, which is restrictive in nature. The opportunities for employment should not be denied by prescription of kind of disabilities; full opportunity should be afforded to ensure need-based distributive justice, Justice Arun Mishra, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said. India records 69 fresh Covid-19 infections, active cases decline to 2,017

India has recorded 96 fresh coronavirus cases while the number of active cases has decreased to 2,017, the Union health ministry said on Friday. The death toll due to the viral disease stands at 5,31,893, according to the ministry's data updated at 8 am. With the fresh cases, the country's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 4,49,93,282, the ministry said. The national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.81 per cent, it added. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has gone up to 4,44,59,372 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of anti-Covid vaccines have so far been administered in the country.

India, China bought 80% of Russia's heavily discounted oil in May: IEA

India and China, the world's top oil users, continued to lap up heavily discounted Russian crude oil, buying as much as 80 per cent of the oil that Moscow exported in May, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a report. "Heavily discounted Russian crude oil has found new buyers primarily in Asia. India has increased purchases from almost nothing to close to 2 million barrels per day, while China has raised liftings by 500,000 barrels per day to 2.2 million barrels per day," the Paris-based energy agency said in its latest Oil Market Report. Russia-origin seaborne crude exports averaged 3.87 million barrels per day in May, the highest since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. "In May 2023, India and China accounted for almost 80 per cent of Russian crude oil exports," IEA said. India-EU case: WTO agrees to defer adoption of panel's ruling till Sep 19

The WTO's dispute settlement body on Thursday agreed not to adopt a ruling against India's import duties on certain information and technology products untill September 19, following a request for the same by the country and the European Union (EU). Both regions have requested this as they are engaged to resolve the dispute bilaterally. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) in a statement said that the members have agreed at a meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on June 15 to a request from the EU and India to grant it additional time to consider the adoption of the panel ruling. In a communication to the World Trade Organisation earlier this month, both regions have called for a special meeting of the WTO's dispute settlement body (DSB) on June 15. They had asked the DSB not to adopt the ruling, which was given by a WTO dispute settlement panel in April. India ranks first globally in LEED Zero certified green building projects surpassing the US and China, according to USGBC and GBCI. LEED Zero recognises projects that have reached net zero or net positive status in the categories of carbon, energy, water, or waste. India, Australia add 15 new areas for talks on comprehensive trade deal

Collaboration in space, mining and sports are among 15 new areas mutually identified by India and Australia for negotiations under the comprehensive free trade agreement, a senior government official said on Thursday. For the first time, these new segments would become part of a trade pact being negotiated by India. Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce Rajesh Agrawal said that the third round of talks for the proposed comprehensive economic cooperation agreement (CECA) will end on June 16 and the next round of talks is scheduled in July. India and Australia have already implemented an interim trade pact in December last year and now negotiations are underway to expand the base of that pact for a CECA.
