Delhi HC asks railways to examine issues raised in New Delhi stampede PIL

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Railways to examine the fixing of maximum passengers and sale of platform tickets -- issues raised in a PIL over the recent stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station. A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhayaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela asked the authorities concerned to state in its affidavit, the details of its measures on the issues. "Let the issues raised in the petition be examined, as suggested by the solicitor general, at the highest level at the Railway Board and thereafter an affidavit be filed by the respondent giving details of the decisions which might be taken by the Railway Board," the court ordered. Solicitor general Tushar Mehta said the matter was not taken in an adversarial manner and the Railways was bound to follow the law. Rlys seeks nuclear energy allocation for trains from NPCIL, Power Ministry

The Railways has approached the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and the Ministry of Power for the allocation of nuclear energy to meet its increasing power requirement, the Rajya Sabha was recently informed. "The power requirement of the Indian Railways (IR) is increasing consistently year on year. IR is exploring all the possible options of energy including nuclear energy. Hind Rectifiers to set up AI, Web3 arm with expansion of Nashik facility

Power and railway equipment producer Hind Rectifiers is expanding its manufacturing facilities in Nashik and has also decided to set up a subsidiary for developing high-tech products and solutions in AI, Web3 and others, according to a top official. Hind Rectifiers MD & CEO Suramya Nevatia said that the company actively progressing with our capacity expansion plans at the Sinnar and Satpur plants in Nashik along with focus on backward integration which will improve cost efficiency. Punjab gets Rs 5,421 cr, Haryana Rs 3,416 cr for rail infra boost: Vaishnaw

The government has allocated Rs 5,421 crore to Punjab and Rs 3,416 crore to Haryana in the Union Budget to strengthen its rail infrastructure, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Monday. This year's allocation was 24 times more than what Punjab received from 2009-2014 (Rs 225 crore), the Railway Minister said in a video conference. Haryana received Rs 315 crore for its railway projects between 2009 and 2014 and this year's allocations is 11 times that number, the minister said. Vaishnav said 30 Amrit stations are being developed in Punjab at a cost of Rs 1,122 crores, and that 34 Amrit stations are being developed in Haryana at a cost of Rs 1,149 crore. In Punjab, Amrit stations are being developed in Abohar, Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib, Beas, Bathinda, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar Cantt, Mansa and Malerkotla, among others. President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said India has the world's third-largest metro network spanning over 1,000 km and emphasised that efforts to streamline urban transportation are underway. Rail operators likely to post double-digit growth in FY25: India Ratings

Rail operators' revenue is expected to grow into double-digit, while warehousing sector is projected to log a 3-5 per cent year-on-year growth in organic rentals this fiscal even as the demand for Grade-A space may remain intact, ratings agency India Ratings said on Friday. For sea transport, the ratings agency said, it is expecting port volumes will be supported by the coastal movement of goods and global container freight, with the easing of geopolitical tensions, including the Red Sea crisis and the normalisation of US-bound traffic. EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) for container freight stations is expected to remain range-bound due to the increase in the proportion of direct port delivery and high competition intensity at large ports, according to Ind-Ra (India Ratings).
