The daughter of a Hyderabad woman, trafficked by her employer from Dubai to Muscat, has requested the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to help her mother return to India."I request MEA Sushma Swaraj, Indian embassy and Telangana government to rescue my mother," the daughter told ANI.She said that an agent had earlier approached her mother and offered a sales girl's job in Dubai, following which her mother on October 11 last year visited Dubai and stayed there for a month after the agent offered them a salary of 15,000 per month.According to the daughter, her mother was later shifted to Muscat in Oman and handed over to a hotel.She also said that she was made to dance at a bar and badly beaten if she refused to."My mother, fed up with their harassment and torture, ran away from them and stayed in a church in Muscat. Odisha government today approved three investment proposals worth Rs 255 crore, which will create direct employment opportunities for about 430 people, officials said. The proposals got the nod at the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority Meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary A P Padhi. The SLSWCA accorded approval to M B Limited to set up a fruit-based beverage manufacturing unit at an investment of Rs 140 crore. The unit has been proposed in Khurda district and envisages creation of employment for 150 people. The project proposal of wires and cables maker A C Pvt Ltd to set up a greenfield aluminium conductors and cables manufacturing unit at the Angul Aluminium Park, with a capacity of 30,000 ton per annum, was also approved. The Rajya Sabha passed the Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) bill on Thursday.The Upper House was adjourned for the day immediately thereafter.The bill would enhance the ceiling of tax-free gratuity to Rs 20 lakh from existing Rs 10 lakh for employers under the Payment of Gratuity Act.The bill also notifies the period of maternity leave as part of continuous service and proposes to empower the central government to notify the gratuity ceiling from time to time without amending the law.The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, was enacted to provide for gratuity payment to employees engaged in factories, mines, oilfields, plantations, ports, railway companies, shops or other establishments.It is applicable to employees, who have completed at least five years of continuous service in an establishment that has 10 or more persons.

The Union health ministry has given the go ahead for issuing tender to start construction of the campus building of AIIMS in Bhatinda, paving the way for starting diagnostics in April next year and medical session from July 2019, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is an MP from Bhatinda, said today. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it has temporarily suspended the premium processing for the H-1B visa.This move comes at a time when USCIS will begin accepting applications for the fiscal year 2019 (October 2018 to September 2019) from April 2. The suspension will last until September 10, it said."This temporary suspension will help us reduce overall H-1B processing times," USCIS said. "By temporarily suspending premium processing, we will be able to.process long-pending petitions, which we have currently been unable to process due to the high volume of incoming petitions and the significant surge in premium processing requests over the past few years."The suspension of premium processing for the H-1B visa could hit Indian IT outsourcing companies like Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).The move could also hit top Silicon Valley players such as Microsoft and Google, which also rely on H-1B.Reportedly, several anti-H1B posters .

"Government should immediately withdraw the controversial new notification on 'fixed term employment' which extends it to all employments in the country," said Saji Narayanan C K, President, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh in a statement. The BMS said that by this notification that amends the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Central Rules, 1946, permanent employment will vanish from the industrial sector and all jobs will be converted into temporary contract works for a fixed period only. The union said, "It is also highly objectionable that a fixed term contract can be even cancelled by the employer unilaterally by giving only two weeks' notice. The central government has shelved a proposal to allow Leave Travel Concession (LTC) to its employees to visit SAARC countries, the Lok Sabha was informed today. The LTC allows grant of leave and ticket reimbursement to eligible central government employees. "A proposal of LTC facility to government employees to SAARC countries with a purpose to enhance people to people contact and boost relations in the SAARC region was examined by the government and after thorough examination of all aspects involved, the proposal was found not feasible and decided not to take it forward," said Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh in a written reply. Two robbers open fired at the employees of a private security company and snatched almost 18 lakh outside HDFC Bank on Ludhiana-Ferozepur Road on Tuesday afternoon.The employees went to the bank to deposit the money when they were targeted by the armed robbers."Some people from private security company came here to deposit money in the HDFC bank when two people snatched their bag which had almost Rs. 18 lakh. As many as 2,500 job-seekers have received employment offers, while 5,500 candidates have been shortlisted for further evaluation at a job fair organised here by the Rajasthan government, a senior official said today. Spread over two days (March 19-20), the event was part of Rajasthan Digifest 2018, organised by the state government's IT and communications department.
