Three Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers were injured in a clash which broke out between TMC and BJP cadres on May 8 in Gosaba village of South 24 Parganas district.A TMC worker alleged that some BJP workers had attacked their three party cadres. after a BJP meeting over panchayat elections in West Bengal.Following the clash, more than 30 houses of BJP workers were allegedly vandalised by TMC workers on May 9.Last month, six policemen were injured in a BJP-TMC clash at Usti in South 24 Parganas district over filing of nominations for the panchayat elections.The panchayat polls in the state will be held on May 1, 3 and 5.

Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment has sought a strict adherence to reservation for SC/STs and OBCs (Other Backward Classes) in hiring of contractual employees and consultants, as also for outsourced work in various ministries and government departments. Expressing concern over a low representation of people from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBCs is these jobs, Union Minister Thawarchand Gehlot has asked Minister in Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) Jitrendra Singh to issues directions to all ministries and departments to ensure quota rule in such appointments. In a letter to Singh, the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Gehlot said that it has been brought to his notice that the reservation policy is not being implemented for appointments of consultants and contract employees, as also for time-bound assignments and outsourced work. The Centre has approved Delhi government's amendment to law for increased punishment for employers not paying minimum wages to workers, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday.
President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to the Delhi government's proposed Bill to amend the Minimum Wages Act under which employers violating labour rules in the city will now face fine ranging from Rs 20,000-50,000 and jail term between one to three years. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the amended law will act as a "strong deterrent" against the employers who do not pay full minimum wages. The Department of Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs of the Delhi government has issued a notification, making it mandatory for employers to pay remuneration either electronically or through cheques, except in some special circumstances. "Finally, Central Govt gives its approval after several months. This will act as a strong deterrent against those employers who do not pay full min wages. Three women labourers were killed and two injured when a huge mound of gravel fell on them while they were undertaking some work at Kustapur village in the district today, police said. The women were clearing the gravel, which they had kept on one side of the road, when it fell on them, they said. The women were part of a work force which was laying a road in the village under the Rural employment generation scheme, police said. The injured women have been hospitalised and are out of danger, they said.

A Telangana cabinet sub-committee that looked into the problems pertaining to government employees and teachers, will submit its report on May 11. The sub-committee, appointed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has already held discussions with the Employees' and Teachers' associations, the CM's office said in a statement. Rao will discuss the report with Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary and senior officers, the statement said. A decision on this will be taken on May 14 after his meeting with associations of employees and teachers, it added.

In a bid to identify the sectors that are lagging behind in employment generation, the Goa government will gather relevant data and organise job fairs over a month beginning May 11, Labour and Employment Minister Rohan Khaunte said today. The objective of the government behind organising the job fairs and gathering data of various sectors is to properly channelise the creation of jobs as well as skill development, he said. A total of three job fairs would be organised during May 11 to June 10 at Porvorim, Curchorem, and at Ponda or Tisk Usgao. "While we speak about unemployment, there is no data to identify the particular category of unemployment. We also don't have the data about the manpower at our disposal or the available vacancies in the state," Khaunte told reporters. India is projected to have a skilled labour surplus of 245 million workers by 2030, mainly on the back of "vast supply of working age citizens", even as most of developed and developing economies are expected to grapple with talent crunch at that time, says a study. Organisational consulting firm Korn Ferry today said there is likely to be a "talent deficit of 85.2 million workers" by 2030 across the 20 major developed and developing economies that were covered in the study. "This global skills shortage could result in USD 8.452 trillion in unrealised annual revenue by 2030 -- equivalent to the combined GDP of Germany and Japan," the study said. According to the study, India is the only country expected to have a surplus of highly skilled financial and business services labour by 2030. More than Rs four lakh were seized from a vehicle in Ampati Assembly constituency where model code of conduct is in force for the May-28 bypoll, the police said. A sum of Rs 4,29,800 was seized from a person in the vehicle near Garobadha village by a team comprising election officials, static surveillance teams, police and a magistrate on Saturday, they said. The person, a village employment council secretary, claimed that he was carrying the money for distribution under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Income Tax officials will question the person carrying the cash to ascertain from where he got the cash, officials said. Election Code of Conduct mandates that cash above Rs 50,000 cannot be carried at one time. The by-election to Ampati seat has been necessitated after former chief minister, Mukul Sangma, gave up the seat, having won both from Ampati and Songsak in the Assembly polls.
