A 15-year-old girl who was raped by her older brother has been jailed for six months for having an abortion, an Indonesian official said today. The girl was sentenced on Thursday alongside her 17-year-old brother in a closed hearing at Muara Bulian District Court on the island of Sumatra, court spokesman Listyo Arif Budiman said. "The girl was charged under the child protection law for having an abortion," he told AFP. Her brother was sentenced to two years in jail for sexually assaulting a minor. Indonesia forbids abortion unless a woman's life is at risk or under certain circumstances if she is raped. The law requires that an abortion must be performed by a registered professional no later than six weeks into a pregnancy, and the woman must undergo counselling. The girl, who was raped by her brother eight times starting in September last year, had the abortion about six months after becoming pregnant, Budiman said. A man was allegedly lynched today in Rajasthan's Alwar district by a group of people who accused him of smuggling cows, police said today. Akbar Khan, 28, and his friend Aslam were taking two cows to their village in Haryana through a forested area near Lalawandi in Alwar district last night when five men attacked them, Ramgarh police station SHO Subhash Sharma said. They suspected that Khan was smuggling cows but the allegation is yet to be verified, Sharma said. The police arrested two men, even as Rajasthan chief Minister Vasundhara Raje promised stern action in the case. The opposition Congress called it a horrific incident, which comes a little over a year after another Muslim man, Pehlu Khan, was allegedly killed by cow vigilantes. Khan narrated the incident to policemen who arrived at the spot. He died on the way to a government hospital in Ramgarh. Khan's family members have demanded quick action in the case. A local court here has asked National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah to appear before it for seeking bail in connection with the multi-crore scam in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). A new born died soon after its birth in Haryana's Ambala, following which the family accused the doctors of not giving the mother proper treatment. Twenty-six-year-old Reena, a resident of Kadasan village, suffered labour pain after which her husband took her to Sahjadpur community health centre. She was then referred to a civil hospital in Ambala cantt yesterday. The doctors at the civil hospital further referred her to PGIMER Chandigarh when they assessed that there could be the possibility of miscarriage. Lakhwinder, the husband of the woman, alleged that instead of giving her emergency treatment, the doctor referred her to Chandigarh. When the ambulance was on the way to Chandigarh, she gave birth to a child. The ambulance then returned to civil hospital in Ambala where the doctor declared child dead, Lakhwinder alleged. A self-styled godman was nabbed by Fatehabad police for allegedly raping his female disciples. Acting on a tip-off, Amar Puri was arrested from his residence in Shakti Nagar area in Fatehabad district on Thursday night, police said. Video CDs containing the clips of the victims being sexually assaulted were recovered from the accused, they added. "There are videos in which he could be seen sexually abusing different female disciples," said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Tohana) Joginder Sharma. "A case had been registered... The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today filed a chargesheet in a Delhi court against Virbhadra Singh's son Vikramaditya in a money laundering case also involving the former Himachal Pradesh chief minister. Special Judge Arvind Kumar fixed the matter for consideration on July24, when he will decide on whether to take cognisance of the final report. The Himchal Pradesh Police today claimed to have caught a man, who was a proclaimed offender in a murder case registered four years ago in Odisha. Upendra Kumar, from Panipat in Haryana, was initially arrested in connection with a case of illicit liquor registered against him under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act, 2011 on July 17, Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Rohit Malpani said. The SP said that he was interrogated by the Paonta Sahib station house officer during his police remand till July 23, where he admitted to committing the crime four years ago. After providing information, the Odisha Police confirmed that an FIR was registered against Kumar under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on September 11, 2014, he added. A 30-year-old man from Delhi died of suspected heart attack enroute to the cave shrine of Vaishno Devi in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police official said today. Mukesh Sharma, a resident of Delhi's Rohini area, fell unconscious near Battery car point along the new track to the cave shrine last evening and was later declared brought dead by doctors at a dispensary nearby, the official said. He said the pilgrim was accompanied by his wife and the couple were on way to the shrine to offer their prayers when he apparently suffered the massive heart attack and fell down. His body was brought to a health centre at Katra and is being handed over to his family for last rites, the official said.
