2 booked for threatening policeman in UP
Two people were booked for allegedly threatening a policeman during a panchayat, police said today. Anees and his son Shahnawaz threatened Circle Officer Ramanand Kushwaha last night during a panchayat in Baraut area, accusing him of being involved in his another son's death. Shakib's body was recovered from a drain here on May 6. "The aggrieved party can convey its point of view in a constitutional manner, but giving open threats to a policeman amounts to criminal act. A case has been registered against Anees and his son Shahnawaz," Superintendent of Police Jaiprakash.
Indonesian 15-year-old raped by brother jailed over abortion
A 15-year-old girl who was raped by her older brother has been jailed for six months for having an abortion, an Indonesian official said today. The girl was sentenced on Thursday alongside her 17-year-old brother in a closed hearing at Muara Bulian District Court on the island of Sumatra, court spokesman Listyo Arif Budiman said. "The girl was charged under the child protection law for having an abortion," he told AFP. Her brother was sentenced to two years in jail for sexually assaulting a minor. Indonesia forbids abortion unless a woman's life is at risk or under certain circumstances if she is raped. The law requires that an abortion must be performed by a registered professional no later than six weeks into a pregnancy, and the woman must undergo counselling. The girl, who was raped by her brother eight times starting in September last year, had the abortion about six months after becoming pregnant, Budiman said. Man lynched on suspicion of cow smuggling
A man was allegedly lynched today in Rajasthan's Alwar district by a group of people who accused him of smuggling cows, police said today. Akbar Khan, 28, and his friend Aslam were taking two cows to their village in Haryana through a forested area near Lalawandi in Alwar district last night when five men attacked them, Ramgarh police station SHO Subhash Sharma said. They suspected that Khan was smuggling cows but the allegation is yet to be verified, Sharma said. The police arrested two men, even as Rajasthan chief Minister Vasundhara Raje promised stern action in the case. The opposition Congress called it a horrific incident, which comes a little over a year after another Muslim man, Pehlu Khan, was allegedly killed by cow vigilantes. Khan narrated the incident to policemen who arrived at the spot. He died on the way to a government hospital in Ramgarh. Khan's family members have demanded quick action in the case. "We want justice. The culprits should be arrested soon," his father .
JKCA scam: Court directs Farooq Abdullah to appear before it on Aug 29
A local court here has asked National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah to appear before it for seeking bail in connection with the multi-crore scam in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). In an interim order on an application moved by Abdullah's lawyer seeking exemption from personal appearance of the former chief minister of the state, the chief judicial magistrate, Srinagar, yesterday said the accused has to be presented before the court for seeking bail and the application for his personal exemption would be taken thereafter. "In view of what has been stated hereinabove, and having regards to the judgement supra the applicant/accused be produced by learned counsel for the application for admitting the accused to bail and thereafter the application for exemption will be taken up for consideration," the court ordered. DA case: Supplementary chargesheet filed against Virbhadra's son

Newborn dies soon after birth in Ambala
A new born died soon after its birth in Haryana's Ambala, following which the family accused the doctors of not giving the mother proper treatment. Twenty-six-year-old Reena, a resident of Kadasan village, suffered labour pain after which her husband took her to Sahjadpur community health centre. She was then referred to a civil hospital in Ambala cantt yesterday. The doctors at the civil hospital further referred her to PGIMER Chandigarh when they assessed that there could be the possibility of miscarriage. Lakhwinder, the husband of the woman, alleged that instead of giving her emergency treatment, the doctor referred her to Chandigarh. When the ambulance was on the way to Chandigarh, she gave birth to a child. The ambulance then returned to civil hospital in Ambala where the doctor declared child dead, Lakhwinder alleged. Self-styled godman held for raping female disciples
A self-styled godman was nabbed by Fatehabad police for allegedly raping his female disciples. Acting on a tip-off, Amar Puri was arrested from his residence in Shakti Nagar area in Fatehabad district on Thursday night, police said. Video CDs containing the clips of the victims being sexually assaulted were recovered from the accused, they added. "There are videos in which he could be seen sexually abusing different female disciples," said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Tohana) Joginder Sharma. "A case had been registered... Investigations were under progress," he added. Puri was produced before the local court yesterday that granted him five-day police remand, said the DSP.
2 arrested in Alwar lynching case
Two people were arrested on Saturday in connection with brutal lynching of a 28-year-old Muslim in Alwar district on suspicion of cow smuggling.The incident occurred on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday. Migos rapper Offset has been arrested in Atlanta, Georgia for alleged gun possession. According to TMZ the musician, who is currently on probation, was driving a vehicle that was pulled over for having tinted windows. During a search of the car the authorities reportedly found the firearm. Offset, 26, has been charged with four crimes-- possession of firearm by felon, possession of one ounce or less of marijuana, possession of weapon during a crime and an improper lane change. This is the second time that the rapper has violated his probation for a 2015 drugs and weapons charge. In March 2016, he was arrested and spent the night in jail for having a suspended license.

Jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam has refused to shift to the Sihala Rest House, saying she would prefer staying at the high-security Adiala Jail with her father and husband, according to a media report. Sharif, 68, and his daughter Maryam, 44, were arrested in Lahore on July 13 on their arrival from London after an accountability court found them guilty over his family's ownership of four luxury flats in London. They were later taken to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. ED files chargesheet against ex-HP CM's son
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today filed a chargesheet in a Delhi court against Virbhadra Singh's son Vikramaditya in a money laundering case also involving the former Himachal Pradesh chief minister. Special Judge Arvind Kumar fixed the matter for consideration on July24, when he will decide on whether to take cognisance of the final report. The chargesheet, filed by special public prosecutors Nitesh Rana and N K Matta, also named Managing Director of Tarani Infrastructure Vakamulla Chandrasekhar and one Ram Prakash Bhatia as an accused. Both Chandrasekhar and Bhatia are also an accused in a CBI case related to the matter, along with Virbhadra Singh, his wifePratibha Singhand others. The Himchal Pradesh Police today claimed to have caught a man, who was a proclaimed offender in a murder case registered four years ago in Odisha. Upendra Kumar, from Panipat in Haryana, was initially arrested in connection with a case of illicit liquor registered against him under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act, 2011 on July 17, Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Rohit Malpani said. The SP said that he was interrogated by the Paonta Sahib station house officer during his police remand till July 23, where he admitted to committing the crime four years ago. After providing information, the Odisha Police confirmed that an FIR was registered against Kumar under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on September 11, 2014, he added. Malpani said that a team of the Odisha Police would soon come to Paonta Sahib to get his custody transferred to them.

Delhi pilgrim dies enroute to Vaishno Devi shrine
A 30-year-old man from Delhi died of suspected heart attack enroute to the cave shrine of Vaishno Devi in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police official said today. Mukesh Sharma, a resident of Delhi's Rohini area, fell unconscious near Battery car point along the new track to the cave shrine last evening and was later declared brought dead by doctors at a dispensary nearby, the official said. He said the pilgrim was accompanied by his wife and the couple were on way to the shrine to offer their prayers when he apparently suffered the massive heart attack and fell down. His body was brought to a health centre at Katra and is being handed over to his family for last rites, the official said.
