Medics caring for him at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool have said further treatment is futile, and the toddler's life support was withdrawn Monday after a series of court rulings sided with the doctors and blocked further medical treatment. A shopkeeper reportedly poured acid on a boy playing outside his shop at Gandhi Nagar area of Shahdara, the police said today. The 7-year-old boy was apparently shouting and the accused threw acid at him yesterday, they said. The boy managed to flee the spot and is undergoing treatment, the police said. The decomposed bodies of a 30-year-old woman and her son were today found from a house in south east Delhi's Okhla area, police said. They said that the husband of the woman was not found, indicating that he might be behind the killings. The police were informed about a foul smell emanating from the house. After the door was broken down, they found the decaying bodies of the woman and her son. The neighbours told the police that the woman's husband, an autorickshaw driver, had left two days ago after locking the house. They thought that the entire family had gone out somewhere, police said.
A 37-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by a spice company owner in west Delhi's Janakpuri, police said today. The woman, who is married, said that the accused also extorted money from her after threatening to upload her obscene pictures on the Internet, they said. She used to visit a gym in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden in 2015 where she met the accused, police said. The duo became friends and the accused offered a job to her. He called her on the pretext of a client meeting in September and allegedly raped her after spiking her drink, they said. She left the job, but the accused kept forcing her into establishing physical relations with him, police said. He also threatened to kill her family if she did not give him money, they added. She approached police this week and a case was registered, they said, adding that police was probing the matter and are yet to make any arrests.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested under the provisions of the recently promulgated Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance 2018 for allegedly attempting to rape a seven-year-old girl in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, police said today. The incident occurred in the Indira Nagar locality last evening. Rama Damkundawar allegedly took the girl, a daughter of his neighbour, to the terrace of his house and tried to rape her, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Yavatmal, Piyush Jagtap. However, the girl managed to escape the clutches of the accused and rushed to her house, he said, adding that she narrated the incident to her parents who raised an alarm. The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Amarpal Sharma, a former BSP MLA from Sahibabad, in the murder case of BJP leader Gajendra Bhati. Bhati was shot dead by two armed assailants in Khoda on September 2 last year. The police had arrested Narendra Gurjar alias Fauji and Raju in connection with the case. Gurjar had told police that Sharma gave him Rs 10 lakh to kill Bhati. Sharma had surrendered in court and was sent to the Dasna jail.

A Crime Branch team today visited a madrassa in Ghaziabad where a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a juvenile after being taken form her house in east Delhi's Ghazipur, police said today. The team visited the madrassa and questioned the residents and visitors in connection with the case that has created tension in Ghazipur. The girl was rescued on April 22 from the madrassa by a Delhi Police team. The police were informed on April 21 by the girl's father that his daughter had gone missing after she went to the market. Subsequently, she was recovered from the madrassa and the accused juvenile was apprehended. Meanwhile, locals staged protest at the NH 24 and held a candle light vigil demanding action in the case. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today issued notices to the state government and the CBI, asking them to file objections to the plea of a sub-inspector and a special police officer seeking a probe by the agency into the Kathua rape and murder case. Sub-Inspector Anand Dutta and Special Police Officer (SPO) Deepak Khajuria were arrested for allegedly destroying evidence related to the rape and killing of an eight-year-old girl in the state's Kathua district. Khajuria was also allegedly involved in the gang-rape of the girl. The duo had moved the High Court seeking a fresh CBI probe into the matter and quashing of the investigation by the crime branch. The government is learnt to have cleared the appointment of senior advocate Indu Malhotra as a judge of the Supreme Court, sources in the Law Ministry said today. She will be the first woman judge to be appointed to the top post directly from the bar. With this development, the government has decided to put on hold the elevation of Justice K M Joseph, who heads the Uttarakhand High Court. On January 22, the apex court collegium's file recommending the elevation of Justice Joseph and Malhotra reached the Law Ministry. After processing the file in the first week of February, the recommendations were kept in abeyance as the government wanted to elevate only Malhotra. But now, the government has went ahead with the appointment of Malhotra and kept on hold the elevation of Justice Joseph. The government feels that while recommending the name of Justice Joseph, the collegium has disregarded seniority and regional representation. Self-styled godman Asaram appeared broken following his conviction in a rape case, Jodhpur Jail Superintendent Vikram Singh said today. "Do something", the 77-year-old kept on muttering to his advocates during the hearing of arguments on the quantum of sentence, according to Singh. "Asaram seemed nervous on hearing the verdict," said a police officer present on the premises of the Jodhpur central jail where the judgment was pronounced. "Asaram appeared broken. He said he will now move a higher court," Singh said. Inside his cell, Asaram was restless and kept on lumbering for some time, he said. A 26-year-old woman has alleged that a 'tantrik', who took her to Ajmer on the pretext of offering obeisance at a dargah, raped her there, police said today. The incident was reported on April 23 to the police by the victim. She stays with her husband in Bihari Enclave in Aman Vihar. The woman told police that she was not keeping well and was advised by her husband to consult the 'tantrik', who lived on the first floor of the building in which the couple lived, said a senior police official. She approached the 'tantrik' for treatment and after performing some rituals, he told her that they would have to visit the Ajmer Dargah to pay obeisance. He also told her that he would 'treat' her there, the official added. According to India Cements, an Indian Premier League (IPL) game, scheduled to be conducted in India in April, 2009 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), of which the ICL is a franchise, was rescheduled in view of the general elections scheduled around the same time. One of two police officers critically wounded in a shooting at a home improvement store in US state of Texas died today, authorities said. Officers - Rogelio Santander (27) and Crystal Almeida (26) - were critically injured in the attack yesterday. A third person who works as a loss-prevention officer at the store was also wounded. Officer Santander, a three-year police veteran, died at 8:11 a.m. today, the Dallas Police Association said. "We ask that you please continue to pray for Officer Santander's family and our department as we all try to cope with this tragic loss," police said on the department blog. Santander is the ninth North Texas officer to be killed in the line of duty in about two years, the Dallas Morning News reported. A Delhi-based jeweller, who had visited the DRI office here in connection with an alleged gold smuggling case, today jumped to death from the probe agency's premises, according to an official statement. The Himachal Pradesh High Court today expressed its dismay at the leak of the CBI's status reports on the probe into the rape-and-murder of a teenaged schoolgirl in the Kotkhai area of Shimla that were filed in sealed covers, and asked the central agency how contents of these reports were being published in the media. The observations were made by a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma after the CBI submitted a fresh status report on the progress of the probe.
