Man kills wife, chops body into 11 pieces

In a hair-raising incident, a man killed his wife and chopped her body into 11 pieces in Gujarat's Surat.The accused namely Shahnawaz Sheikh killed his wife Julekha and dumped the chopped parts of her body in different parts of the city, said Surat Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) B.S. Thakkar.Julekha was Shahnawaz's second wife and she often used to have a fight with his first wife, who used to live with them.Frustrated with the fighting, Shahnawaz's took the extreme step."The accused were dumping the pieces of the victim when a policeman saw him and intervened. After being questioned by the police, he pleaded guilty," ACP Thakkar said.On interrogation, the accused accepted his crime and was later arrested under a relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

7-yr-old girl killed by father after argument with mother over dowry

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father in Shamli district after her mother left their house following an argument over dowry, the police said. The incident occurred in Kairana town yesterday. The mother filed a complaint with the police alleging that her husband, Imran, killed their daughter, Palak, after she left their house following an argument over dowry, according to Station House Officer Sunil Dutt. Police have registered a case against Imran and his two brothers in connection with the incident.

Woman confined to basement of house, raped for 2 months in Muzaffarnagar

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men after being confined to the basement of a house in the civil lines area here for around two months, the police said today. The victim filed a complaint with the police, alleging she was kept at the location for two months and raped by a man and his uncle, according to Station House Officer D K Tyagi. The woman somehow managed to escape from the house on February 1, he said. Police have registered a case against the accused and his uncle. One of the accused has been arrested. Police are conducting searches to nab the uncle, who is on the run, the SHO said. The incident comes amid a furore over cases of rapes reported from several parts of the country.

Differently-abled minor sexually assaulted by neighbour

A 14-year-old differently-abled girl has been allegedly sexually assaulted by her 32-year-old neighbour in Delhi's Rohini.The incident took place two weeks ago.Two of the friends of the accused even filmed the entire incident to blackmail her.They later circulated the video on social media.The Delhi Police on Monday arrested all the three accused in the said case.A case has been registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 and IT Act.

Case against two journos over Ram and Sita cartoon

A case has been registered against two journos for creating and sharing a cartoon of Lord Ram and Sita.The case has been registered against Ahmed Shabbir and Swathi Vadlamudi on the complaint of an advocate Kashimshetty Karuna Sagar.According to Sattaiah, Circle Inspector, Saidabad police station, "An advocate Karuna Sagar filed a complaint on April 13, 2018 that Journalist Ahmed Shabbir has shared a cartoon of Lord Ram and Sita which is hurting Hindu religious sentiments. Subsequently, a case was registered under section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code."Sattaiah added that Sagar again approached the police on April 15 and filed one more complaint."On April 15, again the complainant Karuna Sagar approached us and filed one more complaint stating the cartoon was actually created by another journalist Swathi Vadlamudi, who first shared the cartoon on social media. Truck hits Hegde's escort vehicle, he claims attempt on his life

Unnao rape case: Sengar's brother sent to four-day police custody

In the Unnao rape case, prime accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar's brother Atul Singh on Tuesday was sent to four-day police custody by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court.Along with Atul, five other accused in the case were sent to police custody too.On April 13, the CBI arrested Sengar on the charges of raping a minor last year. Forensic exam rules out presence of semen in balloon

The forensic examination of clothes of a college student, who had alleged that a semen-filled balloon was thrown at her in February, has ruled out the presence of semen, police said today. In February, before Holi, a woman had alleged that semen-filled balloons were thrown at her. On the basis of her complaint, a case was registered at the Greater Kailash police station. The woman's clothes were sent for forensic exam. Almost two months later, the examination ruled out that the balloons contained semen, they said. The contents of the balloon are being probed, they added. The victim had written a post on social media about the incident and later a case was registered.

MP Home minister's take on SC/ST Protection Act

Madhya Pradesh Home minister Bhupendra Singh on Tuesday stated that any action taken on upcoming cases should be under the review petition submitted by the government in the Supreme Court over the SC/ST Protection Act.On April 17, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said that the State government will appeal against the decision of the Supreme Court on the SC/ST protection Act.The apex court, on March 20, introduced the provision of anticipatory bail in the Act while directing that there would be no automatic arrest on any complaint filed under the law.The ruling led to an uproar amongst the SC/ST people who alleged that the Act has been diluted.The Centre, on April 3, filed a review petition against the ruling which went in vain as the top court refused to stay its order and asked all parties to submit detailed replies.

Contractor killed by labourers in Delhi, one held

A 24-year-old labourer was arrested for allegedly killing his contractor following a fight over payment in Dwarka, police said today. On the intervening night of March 30 and 31, the contractor, Lalu, got into a quarrel with two of his labourers. He was found with severe injuries on his body the next morning and was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment, police said. The accused had fled from Delhi after the incident. During investigation, it was found that one of the suspects made a call to his father from the victim's cell phone. The team collected the call detail records and traced the mobile number to the father of one of the suspects. A police team went to the suspect's home in Gorapkhpur, Uttar Prdesh, but he was not found there. State-level wrestler arrested for assaulting cops in 2017

A 34-year-old state-level wrestler was arrested for allegedly assaulting excise department officials in outer Delhi's Bawana, police said today. On October 3, 2017, night, two police personnel deployed with the Delhi excise department were near the Mother Khazani Convent School, as part of a drive to curb activities of bootleggers from Haryana to Delhi, they said. Seven-eight men arrived there with iron rods and sticks, and assaulted the duo. The accused also broke the window panes of the car in which the policemen were sitting, they said. They did this as excise staff were regularly booking their men and seizing illicit liquor, police said. During investigation, Govind, Mannu and Naseem alias Chotu were arrested. They were found involved in smuggling illegal liquor from Haryana. 5 arrested for attack on journalist

Police have arrested five people for their alleged involvement in the case of shooting at a TV journalist here earlier this month. Police arrested Rohit Yadav, Vishal Chaudhary, Yogendra alias Tunda, Bobby and Vikas last night, Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said today. Rohit Yadav was arrested by the Siani Gate police after a brief encounter at Ataur Nangla village last night, while his accomplices were arrested from a deserted house in Madhuban Bapu Dham residential area of the city. Police have recovered four country-made pistols from their possession. In the encounter, a police officer was also injured. The journalist was attacked on April 8 at Razapur village and was hit by three bullets.

78-yr-old man killed by unidentified men in Rajouri Garden

A 78-year-old retired government employee was today killed by unidentified persons in his house at Rajouri Garden here, police said. The incident took place when Jugal Kishore, a retired Central Public Works Department employee, was alone at home, they said. The assailants entered the house after his wife left to buy vegetables. She found him with his throat slit when she returned and informed the police, they said. Kishore and his wife were the only occupants of the house. One of their sons lives in nearby Kirti Nagar, the other in Noida and another in Goa, police said. Police are probing all angles, including that of personal enmity and robbery. They said there were no signs of forced entry and that the couple did not keep too many valuables at the house. It is being probed whether any cash or valuables are missing. Kulbhushan Jadhav case: India files its reply in ICJ

India on Tuesday submitted a fresh set of pleadings in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in regard to the case of retired naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by a Pakistan Military Court in April last year on charges of espionage and terrorism.The pleadings were filed in response to Pakistan's submissions to the court.Pakistan has been given time until July 17, 2018, by the court to file its response (rejoinder).It may be recalled that India first approached the court on May 8, last year, for egregious violations of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963 by Pakistan in the matter.The court on May 18, 2017, indicated provisional measures as requested by India and passed an order obligating Pakistan not to carry out the sentence that was awarded to Jadhav through a farcical trial by Pakistan.As per the court order, India had filed written pleadings (Memorial) in the case on September 13, 2017, and Pakistan filed its ...

Surat rape: Minor victim identified

The Gujarat Police on Tuesday identified the minor girl, whose body was found brutalised and raped in Surat.Surat's Police Commissioner, Satish Sharma said that the victim was from Andhra Pradesh and went missing in October last year."Surat rape case victim has been identified. A man from Andhra Pradesh today approached Surat police claiming that the minor girl, whose body was found here on April 6, might be his daughter. Police officials said that a DNA sample had been sent to verify the man's claim. "A man from Andhra Pradesh today approached us along with some of his family members, claiming that the girl whose body was found on April 6 was his daughter. Sheena Bora case: Court allows IO to be present during trial

A special court holding the Sheena Bora murder trial today permitted the investigation officer in the case to be present in the court during its proceedings to assist the public prosecutor. Special judge J C Jagadale granted permission to the case IO to be present in the court during the trial on a CBI plea. The court gave the permission hearing both the prosecution and defence counsel on the matter. In a plea to the court earlier, the CBI had sought its permission for IO's presence during the trial saying the case was a complicated one involving voluminous evidence and testimonies to prove the guilt of the accused and the special public prosecutor needed his active support and assistance during the trial.
