Two factory workers were killed and another was injured in a fire in west Delhi, police said on Tuesday.
Capital markets regulator Sebi today settled cases of disclosure lapses related to three separate entities after they paid more than Rs 6 lakh towards settlement charges. According to three separate Sebi orders, the entities are Gagan Gases, Richa Maheshwary and Kiran Mittal. Maheshwary is a promoter of Gagan Gases. The entities had filed applications to settle the "proposed adjudication proceedings" for the delayed compliance of disclosure norms as required under SAST (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeover) Regulations and PIT (Prohibition of Insider Trading) Regulations. The settlement terms proposed by them were considered by the regulator's High Powered Advisory Committee (HPAC). The committee recommended the cases for settlement on payment of Rs 2,00,658 by Gagan Gases, Rs 2,23,482 by Maheshwary and Rs 2 lakh by Mittal. The recommendation of HPAC was also accepted by the panel of Whole Time Members of Sebi. Last month, the three entities paid their respective settlement .

A 19-year-old girl and her younger sister, who had gone last evening to relieve themselves in a farming field in their village near here, were found shot dead hours later, the police said today. Etawah Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Tripathi said the incident occurred in a village under Basrehar police station jurisdiction. When the girl did not return home till late, their family members thought they would have gone to a neighbour's house to attend a marriage function there. "However, when they did not return even by late night, the family members began a frantic search for them and found their bodies in a nearby farming field. The police have sent the bodies for autopsy. At the crime spot, police have found bullet shell and a liquor bottle," the SSP said.
The National Green Tribunal today rapped the East Delhi Municipal Corporation over its report on a recent fire incident at the Ghazipur landfill site, saying it cannot allow non-compliance of its orders to solve the issue. Irked at the approach of the corporation, a bench headed by acting Chairperson Justice Jawad Rahim summoned the Police Commissioner and the Commissioner of the EDMC to appear before it on April 23 and submit a detailed report. A corporator of the NCP, arrested for allegedly vandalising the office of Ahmednagar SP, died due to a heart attack at Pune's Sassoon Hospital while he was under judicial custody, an official said today. Kailas Giravale (55), admitted to the hospital on April 15 after he complained of severe chest pain, suffered a heart attack and died around midnight on Monday, Ranjankumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ahmednagar, said. State governments are with the Centre on the issue of recalling the Supreme Court order allegedly diluting the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, home ministry officials said. The comments came in the wake of reports that some state governments have already directed their police to strictly implement the March 20 apex court order, which has upset Dalits groups leading to protests. "The Centre has made abundantly clear that there should be no dilution of the SC/ST Act. It has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court for recall of its order. As far as states are concerned, they are also on board. They are in touch with the Centre and many of them are taking steps. Some have already announced that they will associate with the Centre," a ministry official said. The security of the special judge for NIA cases, who acquitted five persons including right-wing activist Swami Aseemanand in the Mecca Masjid blast case, has been enhanced, the police said today. K Ravinder Reddy, the special Judge for NIA cases and Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, tendered his resignation yesterday citing "personal reasons", hours after pronouncing the verdict in the 2007 case. "In the wake of yesterday's verdict, the security arrangements at his residence have been enhanced with deployment of additional personnel," a senior police official told PTI. The enhanced security arrangements will be in place for some time, he said. "...there is no specific alert, but following the verdict, security has been stepped up around his house since yesterday itself," the official said. The official declined to divulge any detail on how many personnel were deployed for his security.

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped for the past several days by a youth, who used to live as a tenant in her grandmother's house here, the police said today. The incident in Hussainpura area of the city in Punjab came to light when the victim told her friend, who in turn shared it with her mother. Then, the friend's mother informed the victim's grandmother, a police official said. The accused, who is absconding, had been allegedly raping the girl for the past several days and had threatened the minor of dire consequences if she informed anyone, the official said. The victim had been living at her grandmother's home after the demise of her parents. The accused had stayed as a tenant some time ago at the house, he said. Six persons, including an woman, were arrested on the charges of kidnapping and molesting a minor school student from Dharmanagar Jail quarter area here, police said today. Punjab police arrested two alleged drug smugglers after seven kg of heroin was recovered from their possession here. Nigerians constituted about 40 per cent of foreigners arrested for drug crimes in the country last year, says a latest report by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). According to the data compiled by the central agency for the year 2017, out of the total 397 foreigners arrested in India for drug crimes, 157 were Nigerians, 95 were from Nepal, 46 from Myanmar and 13 from South Africa. Nigerians, as per the data, constitute the highest and account for about 40 per cent of the foreigners arrested for such crimes last year. The Narcotics Control Bureau, the enforcement agency tasked to coordinate efforts against drug menace, itself arrested 21 Nigerians, while the rest were apprehended by other departments, including various state police units. A senior official in the anti-narcotics establishment said the figures reflect a trend of the involvement of Nigerians and those from other African countries in such crimes.
