Passenger vehicles production in India was down 13.18 per cent in April-July this fiscal with top manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Ford, Toyota and Honda reducing output massively. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) and Volkswagen India were the only two main manufacturers which saw production grow marginally during the period, according to the latest data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Total Passenger vehicles (PV) production in the April-July period stood at 12,13,281 units as against 13,97,404 units in the same period last fiscal, down 13.18 per cent, SIAM said. Market leader Maruti Suzuki India's (MSI) production during the period stood at 5,32,979 units, down 18.06 per cent from the comparable period last fiscal. Mahindra & Mahindra on Wednesday reported a 52.56 per cent decline in consolidated profit after tax to Rs 894.11 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, hit by lower vehicle sales. The company had posted a consolidated profit after tax of Rs 1,884.66 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year, Mahindra & Mahindra said in a regulatory filing. M&M eyes world SUV market
Utility vehicles major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) plans to drive in multiple versions of its entry-level models KUV100 and TUV300, catering to different sets of customers, a senior company official said. Looking at the two brands as "long term and strategic", the company is investing in new technologies, including making the products confirm to BS-VI emission norms. Besides an updated version of TUV300 next year, M&M is gearing up to introduce an electric version of KUV100 as well. The company also plans to launch a diesel version of KUV100, mated with an automated manual transmission (AMT), in the current fiscal. Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) today announced foray into construction equipment business by launching its first motor grader. The Mumbai-based company today rolled out its first motor grader -- Mahindra RoadMaster G75 -- under the business vertical. "We are targeting to sell around 200 units over the next one year. Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra today reported 3 per cent increase in total sales at 41,895 units in May. The company had sold 40,656 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement. In the domestic market, sales were up 10.89 per cent at 40,602 units last month compared to 36,613 units in May 2016. Exports were down 68 per cent at 1,293 units in May against 4,043 units in the same month last year. Mahindra & Mahindra today reported 6 per cent rise in total sales to 56,031 units in March as against 52,718 units sold in the same month last year. In domestic market, sales were up 9 per cent at 53,322 units last month compared to 48,967 units in March 2016, M&M said in a regulatory filing. The company said its exports stood at 2,709 units during the month under review. Sales of passenger vehicles, including Scorpio, XUV500, Xylo, Bolero and Verito, declined by 5.70 per cent at 25,352 units compared with 26,885 units in March 2016. Its medium and heavy commercial vehicles sales surged 67 per cent to 1,471 units last month, M&M said. For the entire fiscal, the company's total sales grew by 3 per cent to 5,06,625 units as against 4,94,098 units in 2015-16.
