Opposition to 'Hindi imposition' is my message: MK Stalin as he turns 72

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday turned 72 and the DMK President underlined his commitment to state autonomy, two-language policy and opposition to Hindi imposition as his birthday message. Stalin, who cut a cake with his family members and party workers, administered to cadres an oath of "one goal" which is to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu and oppose Hindi imposition at all times to come. "Tamil Nadu poradum, Tamil Nadu Vellum," (Tamil Nadu will fight, Tamil Nadu will win) Stalin said, which was repeated by party workers. "Anna Arivalayam," the DMK headquarters here wore a festive look as party cadres and office-bearers turned up in large numbers to greet their party chief. "Dravida Nayagar," (Dravidian Hero) was among the phrases used by DMK workers and supporters to greet Stalin on social media. The Dravidian party chief underscored the principles of state autonomy, opposition to Hindi imposition, and commitment to two-language policy as his birthday message

CM MK Stalin criticises Hindi imposition, claims Sanskrit is 'hidden face'

Upping the ante against alleged Hindi imposition by the Centre, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday once again said the state will not allow the "imposition" of the language and vowed to protect Tamil and its culture. "Will oppose Hindi imposition. Hindi is the mask, Sanskrit is the hidden face," he said in a letter to partymen. The ruling DMK has been alleging Hindi imposition by the Centre through the 3-language formula as part of the National Education Policy (NEP), a charged denied by the union government. In the letter, Stalin claimed many north Indian languages spoken in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh such as Mythili, Brajbhasha, Bundelkhandi and Awadhi "have been destroyed by the hegemonic Hindi." "More than 25 north Indian native languages have been destroyed by the invasion of hegemonic Hindi-Sanskrit languages. The century-old Dravidian movement safeguarded Tamil and its culture because of the awareness it created and the various agitations," the rul

Will not implement NEP even if Centre offers Rs 10,000 cr to TN: CM Stalin

Continuing his tirade against the Centre over the National Education Policy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday said he would not agree to implement it even if the Centre offered to provide Rs 10,000 crore in funds to the state. The opposition to the NEP was not merely due to the attempt to impose Hindi but also because of various other factors that would have serious consequences for the future of students and the social justice system, he claimed. Apart from encouraging a screening test for admissions to even arts and science colleges, similar to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical courses, the NEP would allow students to discontinue their studies. "Permitting students to discontinue studies is akin to asking them not to study," Stalin said, addressing an event organised by the Parents-Teachers Association here. "We are not opposed to any language but will remain firm in opposing its imposition. We are not opposing the NEP only for the atte

Udhayanidhi slams Pradhan over politics remark; defends 2-language policy

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Friday hit back at Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for attacking state CM M K Stalin amid the NEP row and asserted the state will only follow the 2-language policy. The state was seeking only its due share of funds from the Centre from the taxes paid by it, he said. "We are asking our (share of) funds, about Rs 2150 crore. They (Centre) want us to accept NEP and the 3-language policy. Tamil Nadu has always been opposed to three language policy, so what is there to do politics," he asked. "Tamil is our right, please understand who is doing politics," the DMK leader told reporters. Earlier in the day, Pradhan had attacked Stalin over the ongoing row on the implementation of NEP and accused him of "spinning progressive reforms into threats to sustain political narratives". In a letter to Stalin, Pradhan said the Tamil Nadu CM should rise above political differences and think about the interests of young learners who w

Stalin condemns Pradhan for alleged NEP, 3-language policy rider for funds

Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday accused Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of "blackmail" for allegedly taking a stand that Tamil Nadu would not be provided funds till such time it accepted the National Education Policy (NEP) and the three language formula. Tagging a video clip of Pradhan speaking to reporters in Varanasi on February 15, Stalin, in a post on 'X' quoted Pradhan as saying that Tamil Nadu has to come to the terms of the Indian Constitution and that the three languagae policy is the rule of law. Accusing Pradhan of "blackmail" for his alleged stand that Tamil Nadu would not be provided education related funds by the Centre till such time the state accepted the three language policy, the Chief Minister termed it as unacceptable, and Tamil people would not tolerate it. The state sought its due, from the Centre which is its right and if the central minister spoke arrogantly as if the state claimed his personal wealth, then, in that case, Delhi would have to ..

Budget 2025: TN CM Stalin says, 'state got ignored out of biasness'

The Union Budget for 2025-2026 was 'biased' in completely ignoring Tamil Nadu and betrayed the expectation of the people, Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Saturday. Despite putting forth several demands to it, the Centre did not seem to have the heart to confirm atleast one demand and announce it in the Budget, he said. "The demands are numerous ... highways and railway projects, Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail projects. Why nothing has been given? What is stopping you?" Stalin asked in a post on the social media platform X. Terming the Union Budget as 'prejudiced' in so far as Tamil Nadu was concerned, the Chief Minister said even the name Tamil Nadu was not mentioned. Tamil Nadu occupied a prominent place in all the reports of the Union Government including the Economic Survey, Ranking of Higher Education Institutions, and the NITI Aayog report, and they all praised the state's activities. "But why is Tamil Nadu completely ignored this year in the Budget?" Stalin, who is ...

India's heritage inspires world: Rahul on Stalin's 'iron age' remark

India's rich heritage continues to inspire the world and Tamil Nadu's contributions reflect India's innovation and unity, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday after Chief Minister M K Stalin announced that the Iron Age began on Tamil soil. "With immense pride and unmatched satisfaction, I have declared to the world: 'The Iron Age began on Tamil soil!' Based on results from world-renowned institutions, the use of iron in Tamil Nadu dates back to the beginning of 4th millennium B.C.E., establishing that iron usage was prominent in South India over 5,300 years ago," Stalin said in a post on X. "What was written in our ancient literature is now becoming scientifically proven history, thanks to the meticulous efforts of our Dravidian Model Government. The history of the Indian subcontinent can no longer overlook Tamil Nadu. In fact, it must begin here!" he said. TN people favour DMK's return due to efficient governance: CM Stalin

Notwithstanding the Centre 'ignoring' Tamil Nadu and political rivals trying to create rumours about the ruling dispensation, the DMK-led government was delivering efficient administration and the people of the state were therefore inclined to vote for the party once again in next year's elections, Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Sunday. In a letter to party men extending his Pongal festival greetings, the ruling DMK President also exhorted them to sincerely work for people's welfare and be "true to their trust on us." "The people of Tamil Nadu are firm that the DMK government should come to the ruling saddle for the seventh time (in 2026), thanks to the Dravidian model government's transparent rule and efficient administration with clear-cut schemes that has resulted in various achievements, despite the Centre regularly ignoring Tamil Nadu and political rivals trying to spread rumours," Stalin said. Only the centre has the power to cancel Neet, clarifies TN CM Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday said the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test would have been abolished had the Indi alliance captured power, but only the Central government can now cancel the test. The DMK has consistently opposed NEET and was involved in efforts aimed at scrapping the test, he told the Assembly. "NEET did not enter Tamil Nadu as long as our leader Kalaignar (late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi) and late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa were in power. The exam was introduced only during your regime," Stalin said responding to the Leader of the Opposition AIADMK Edappadi K Palniswami's charge that the ruling dispensation had done precious little to abolish NEET despite its promise in the run-up to the 2021 assembly election. "Does Opposition Leader Palaniswami not know that only the Union Government can cancel NEET? If the Indi alliance had come to power at the Centre, then NEET would have definitely been cancelled," Stalin said responding to a volley of

Manmohan's economic policies formed basis of India's growth: TN CM Stalin

The economic policies framed by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh formed the basis of India's growth and Tamil was accorded classical language status during his reign, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Tuesday. Paying rich tributes to Singh at a memorial meeting organised by the TNCC here, he said the late Prime Minister had served as Finance Minister during the economic crisis. "Manmohan Singh brought various schemes for the welfare of the people. The economic policies formulated by him became the foundation for India's growth, Stalin, who is also the DMK president, said on Singh who died due to age-related ailments on December 26, 2024. In 2004 the Prime Minister's position came seeking him following the victory in the elections. Everybody including former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi urged Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to accept the position. But she declined and was magnanimous enough to give it to Manmohan Singh, Stalin said. Singh remained in power for a decade a
