NTPC Q3 results: Profit up 7% at Rs 5,208 cr, income falls to Rs 43,574 cr

State-owned power giant NTPC on Monday reported over 7 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 5,208.87 crore for the December 2023 quarter, aided by energy sales through trading. Its net profit stood at Rs 4,854.36 crore in the year-ago period, a BSE filing said. The total income fell to Rs 43,574.65 crore in the quarter from Rs 44,989.21 crore in the same period a year ago. The company's expenses rose to Rs 38,782.22 crore from Rs 37,007.51 a year ago. "Revenue from operations for the quarter and nine months ended 31 December 2023 include Rs 2,117.12 crore and Rs 7,012.90 crore, respectively (Previous quarter and nine months Rs 1,984.92 crore and Rs 6,039.14 crore, respectively) on account of sale of energy through trading," the filing said. The Board of Directors of the company has also approved a second interim dividend of 2.25 per share (face value of Rs 10 each) for the financial year 2023-24 in their meeting held on January 29, 2024. NTPC Green Energy signs 2 pacts for green hydrogen projects in Gujarat

NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) on Friday announced the signing of two initial pacts for the development of green hydrogen projects in Gujarat. The NTPC's arm signed the Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd (GSPC) and Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd (GPPL) These pacts were signed at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in Gandhinagar. In a statement, NTPC said the pact with GSPC is for the blending of green hydrogen in the gas networks of GSPC and green hydrogen mobility by setting up of green hydrogen fuelling stations in Gujarat. The MoU with GPPL aims to develop green hydrogen ecosystem, including production of Green Ammonia at the land provided by GPPL for export and domestic market, according to the statement. NGEL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC with an operational capacity of over 3.4 GW and 26 GW in pipeline, including 7 GW under implementation.

Premier Energies and GE Power India bag order from state-owned NTPC

GE Power India Limited on Tuesday said it received an order worth Rs 10.3 crore from state-owned NTPC. The order is for supply of spares and repair of high power inner casing module, GE Power India said in a BSE filing. The order is to be completed in 10.5 months, the company said. GE is a leading player in engineering, manufacturing, project management and supply of products and solutions for power generation and transmission infrastructure requirements.

NTPC plans to list green energy vertical in next 1-2 years: Gurdeep Singh

State-owned NTPC is looking towards listing its green energy vertical in the next 1-2 years, as it anticipates higher demand going forward, its chairman and managing director Gurdeep Singh said on Wednesday. He also said that the entity is expecting a 30-40 per cent rise in capex to cater to increased power demand in the country. "Maybe I think (an IPO) down the line in next one to two years... as we add capacity and there is a pipeline of growth," Singh said in response to a question on whether the company was looking for listing its green energy vertical. He was participating in a panel discussion "An Indian Tomorrow," at the 10th SBI Banking & Economics Conclave here. "We would definitely be looking forward. And that's our thinking process... NTPC Group touches 300 billion units power generation mark in FY24

NTPC Group on Tuesday said it has produced 300 Billion Units (BU) of power so far this fiscal. It is the fastest ever 300 BU generation, NTPC said in a statement. The milestone was achieved in just 262 days on December 18, which is 18 days early as compared to the previous financial year, it said. In 2022-23, the group had crossed 300 BU generation on January 5, 2023, it said. NTPC Ltd, under the Ministry of Power, is India's largest integrated power utility, contributing 1/4th of the power requirement of the country.

Tata Power Solar Systems to supply solar modules worth Rs 418 cr to NTPC

Tata Power Solar Systems has bagged a Rs 418 crore order to supply 152 MWp solar PV modules for an NTPC project at Nokh in Rajasthan. Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd (TPSSL) has signed a contract to supply 152 MWp solar PV modules for NTPC's Nokh Solar PV Project in Rajasthan, the company said in a statement. According to the statement, the project holds a significant order value of about Rs 418 crore. The NTPC is developing 3x245 MW (735 MW) Nokh Solar Park at Pokhran, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The TPSSL's solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Bengaluru will supply 152 MWp DCR Solar PV Modules for this project, the statement added.

NTPC Mining logs 23.22 MMT coal output in FY24 so far, surpasses FY23 total

NTPC Mining has achieved coal output of 23.22 Million Metric Tonne (MMT) in FY24 so far, surpassing 23.20 MMT achieved in entire 2022-23 financial year. The milestone was achieved in record 257 days, taking 108 less days than in FY23, recording year-on-year growth of 77 per cent in coal production and 88 per cent in dispatch. NTPC Mining is a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd. "NTPC Mining Ltd (NML) has surpassed the coal production in current fiscal FY24 by producing 23.223 MMT on 13 Dec 2023 compared to FY2022-23 that was 23.203 MMT," a company statement said. Since December 2016, NML's cumulative coal production is more than 91 MMT from its four operational captive mines namely Pakri Barwadih & Chatti-Bariatu coal mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga mine in Odisha and Talaipalli mine in Chhattisgarh. Penalty stayed on NTPC for non-disclosure of private firm stake acquisition

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has stayed a CCI order that imposed a penalty on state-owned power producer NTPC for not disclosing the acquisition of 35.47 per cent equity share capital in Ratnagiri Gas & Power Private Ltd. The Competition Commission of India on August 22, 2023, imposed a penalty of Rs 40 lakh on NTPC for non-disclosure of its acquisition of 35.47 per cent of the equity share capital in Ratnagiri Gas & Power Private Ltd (RGPPL). This was challenged by NTPC before the NCLAT, which is an appellate authority over the orders passed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). A two-member bench directed to list the matter on February 27, 2024, for the next hearing on NTPC's appeal and stayed the operation of order passed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). NGT issues notice to environment min, NTPC over water scarcity in Prayagraj

The National Green Tribunal has sought a response from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, NTPC and others on a petition alleging scarcity of water in the Yamuna and the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The green panel was hearing a petition that claimed the water scarcity in the rivers could result in a situation where organising the Kumbh Mela and the Magh Mela in Prayagraj would become difficult in the next two decades. According to the petition, the scarcity has been caused by the withdrawal of water by several entities, including the Kishanpur canal and two thermal plants. In an order passed on Monday, a bench of National Green Tribunal Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava said the petition raised "a substantial issue relating to compliance of the environmental laws". NTPC Group's capacity reaches 73,874 MW after wind unit installation

State-owned power giant NTPC on Saturday said its group installed capacity has reached 73,874 MW after its arm started commercial operations of a 50 MW wind energy unit. "NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, has on Nov 4 declared commercial operation of its first project of 50 MW Wind at Dayapar Project in Gujarat, taking the group installed capacity to 73,874 MW," a company statement said. With this, the total Renewable Energy (RE) operational capacity of NTPC Group stands at 3,364 MW, it said. This is also the first capacity in India declared commercial under the new IEGC code and GNA Regime. The NTPC REL was incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC on October 7, 2020 to accelerate NTPC's RE capacity addition. Dayapar Wind is the first project of NTPC REL, and apart from this, there are 15 other RE projects under different stages of execution, totalling 6,210 MW, it stated. NTPC produces 19 MT coal from captive mines in Apr-Oct; supply at 20 MT

NTPC has produced 19.117 million tonnes (MT) of coal from its captive mines during the April-October period of the ongoing fiscal, a year-on-year rise of 86 per cent. It had produced 10.282 MT in the nine-month period of the preceding 2022-23 financial year, the company said in a statement on Thursday. In addition, NTPC has also achieved a coal dispatch of 20.225 MT till October 31, FY24, up 94 per cent over the supplies made in the year-ago period. "This outstanding performance reflects NTPC's relentless commitment to enhance coal production from its captive mines and ensure efficient supply to meet the nation's energy needs," the company said. NTPC, under the Ministry of Power, is India's largest power producing entity.
