Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is likely to hold a meeting with exporters on Wednesday, April 9, to take stock of issues to be faced by Indian traders due to the imposition of an additional 26 per cent reciprocal tariffs by the Trump administration, an industry official said on Sunday. Senior officials of the commerce ministry and representatives of export promotion councils (EPCs) and the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) will attend the deliberations, according to the industry official. Meanwhile, an exporter said that the government should come forward to extend fiscal incentives to all exporters, particularly MSMEs, in this situation, as the US tariffs will have an impact on the country's shipments. The effect of these duties is expected to be reflected starting May as demand will take a hit in the US. "Sweeping increases in duties on all the countries in the world will have an inflationary impact on the US customers. It would hit demand for al

Easy to criticise startups: Zepto CEO highlights impact after Goyal's jibe

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal's scathing remarks on Indian startup ecosystem and its innovation priorities have drawn sharp reaction from the industry, with Zepto CEO Aadit Palicha putting up a strong defence citing the company's contribution to jobs, FDI and terming it a "miracle in Indian innovation". Underlining the role played by consumer internet companies in pushing technology-led innovation, Palicha - one of the most recognised faces in the startup circles, and the co-founder of quick commerce company Zepto - argued that the startup ecosystem, the government, and the owners of large pools of Indian capital need to actively support the creation of these local champions, "not pull down the teams that are trying hard to get there". "It is easy to criticise consumer internet startups in India, especially when you compare them to the deep technical excellence being built in US/China. Using our example, the reality is this: there are almost 1.5 Lakh real people who are earning ...

The company is looking for a parcel of land, which is about 250 acres near a port. Germany is the ninth largest investor in India. Several nations want to adopt India's development model, which has given prominence to initiatives such as Startup India that encourage innovation, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said here on Saturday. Addressing the valedictory function of Vejalpur Startup Festival 2.0, Goyal also said India aims to take the number of unicorns from the existing 118 to 1,000 and 5,000. The startup ecosystem created in the country has encouraged job seekers to become job creators, the Union minister asserted. And slowly, several countries, especially developing countries, today want to adopt India's development model," Goyal said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated to the nation several jewels in this development model, like Swachh Bharat Mission, Make In India, Digital India, Startup India, International Yoga ...
