India aspires to take technical textiles market to $40 bn in 4-5 yrs: Goyal

Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said India aspires to take its technical textiles market to USD 40 billion in the next 4-5 years from USD 22 billion at present. In a virtual address at a conference on geo textiles, the Textiles Minister also expressed hope to build a domestic technical textiles market of up to USD 300 billion by 2047. Currently, India is the fifth largest producer of technical textiles in the world with a market size of nearly USD 22 billion. To achieve these objectives, Goyal underlined the need to focus on improving productivity at manufacturing and supply-chain levels. DPIIT to set up task force for formulating logistics cost framework

A task force will be set up for formulating a framework to determine logistics costs in the country, the commerce and industry ministry has said. It was decided in a workshop organised by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on the subject, on Monday. The task force members would include representatives from NITI Aayog, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), academic experts and other stakeholders. It "will be established for formulating a logistics cost framework in a time-bound fashion," it said. The workshop on logistics cost framework was organised in partnership with Asian Development Bank (ADB). Congress' Shaktisinh files breach of privilege notice against Piyush Goyal

Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil on Tuesday filed a breach of privilege notice against Piyush Goyal, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, for allegedly violating the rules and established procedures by making allegations against a Lok Sabha member. In his notice to the Rajya Sabha chairman under Rule 188, Gohil said Goyal violated Rule 238, which clearly states that "no allegation of a defamatory or incriminatory nature shall be made by a member against any other member or a member of the House". India's exports to cross $750 billion this fiscal, says Piyush Goyal

The country's goods and services exports are marching ahead to cross USD 750 billion in the current financial year and talks for expanding rupee trade with certain countries are at an advanced stage, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday. Goyal said that last year the exports reached an all time high of USD 676 billion. India, US ink MoU on semiconductor supply chain, innovation partnership

India and the US on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership during the Commercial Dialogue 2023 here, the commerce ministry said. On the invitation of Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo visited Delhi between March 7 and 10. During this visit, the India-US Commercial Dialogue was re-launched on March 10 to discuss cooperation for unlocking new trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, it said. "During the Dialogue, a MoU on establishing semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership under the framework of India-US Commercial Dialogue was signed between India and US," it said. The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a unified payments interface-type protocol, will help small retailers survive the onslaught of large tech-based e-commerce companies, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday. ONDC is an initiative of the ministry to help small retailers expand their business and reduce the dominance of e-commerce giants. It aims to build an open, interoperable network on which buyers and sellers can transact without needing to be present on the same platform. It offers small retailers an opportunity to provide their services, and goods to buyers across the country through an e-commerce system, where buyers will be able to purchase the products, which are sold on any platform. India's goods and services exports are expected to cross USD 750 billion this fiscal despite the global economic uncertainties, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday. In 2021-22, the country's goods and services exports touched an all-time high of USD 422 billion and USD 254 billion respectively, taking the total shipments to USD 676 billion.
