Acosta's press card revoked: WHCA urges reversal of 'weak and misguided' action

After the White House announced the suspension of CNN journalist Jim Acosta's press card, the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) while objecting the same has urged the concerned authorities to reverse the "weak and misguided action."The WHCA, in a statement released shortly after the suspension of CNN's White House Chief Correspondent's press card, appealed to those doubting that Acosta's reaction was disproportionate to the perceived offense to view the video of the events."The White House Correspondents' Association strongly objects to the Trump Administration's decision to use US Secret Service security credentials as a tool to punish a reporter with whom it has a difficult relationship. Revoking access to the White House complex is a reaction out of line to the purported offense and is unacceptable. Journalists may use a range of approaches to carry out their jobs and the WHCA does not police the tone or frequency of the questions its members ask of powerful senior ...

White House suspends press credentials of CNN reporter

Defending it chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta, the CNN said the decision is "a threat to democracy". The White House's move followed a heated exchange between Trump and Acosta who refused the President's orders to sit down and clung to the microphone and persisted with questions about his views on a caravan of Central American migrants making its way to the US border. A visibly angry Trump said "that's enough!" and a White House intern unsuccessfully tried to take the microphone from the CNN journalist. Trump sacks US Attorney General Jeff Sessions

US President Donald Trump sacked US Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday after berating him publicly for several months for his decision to recuse himself from oversight of an inquiry to probe Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. An acting attorney general and Republican loyalist Matthew G Whitaker was appointed as Sessions's temporary replacement. Observers opine that Trump's move will have potential implication on special counsel Robert Mueller's probe as Whitaker has been overtly critical of the Mueller's team to investigate beyond allegations Trump's campaign colluded with Russia in 2016 and other ties between the President, his family and aides, and Kremlin-- an investigation the White House calls a "witch hunt". For the past several months, Trump has been expressing his displeasure at Sessions's functioning in public meetings and social media platform. In a tweet on Wednesday Trump said, "We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of ...

Madagascar counts votes after presidential poll

Election officials began counting ballots in Madagascar after Wednesday's vote for a new president in which three former heads of state ran as the Indian Ocean island seeks to defuse a political crisis. Attempts by the most recent president Hery Rajaonarimampianina to change the island's electoral laws backfired, sparking nearly three months of sometimes violent protests in the capital Antananarivo. The demonstrators forced Rajaonarimampianina to accept a "consensus" government tasked with organising an election in this impoverished nation with a history of coups and unrest. Nearly 10 million voters were eligible to cast ballots for one of 36 candidates who also included two ex-prime ministers, several pastors and a rock star. To win, a candidate must get 50 per cent of the votes cast or a second round will be held on December 19. Only about 44.5 per cent of voters turned out, according to the electoral commission. Provisional results, expected by November 20, must be confirmed by the

Working very hard on preventing outside interference in US polls: Trump

United States President Donald Trump has said that he was working very hard to prevent any outside interference in American elections. His remarks came amid investigations by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, a former FBI director, into the allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections. To a question at a White House news conference, on whether he has noticed any outside interference in the just-concluded midterm elections, Trump said, "We have been working very hard on China and Russia and everybody else looking into our elections or meddling with our elections." An interagency team involving the Department of Homeland Security and several others including the FBI and the Department of Justice looked into it, he said, adding, "We are going to make a full report. And unlike the previous administration, we have done a lot of work on that issue." "We've spent a lot of time -- it gets very little coverage in the papers. I mean, you cover the nonsense part, but you .
