Yechury to visit Nepal Thursday

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury will visit Nepal Thursday to hold discussions with the leadership of the ruling Nepal Communist Party. Yechury along with party's central committee member Jogendra Sharma will visit the Himalayan nation between October 25 and October 30 to hold wide-ranging talks with NCP leaders as well as the country's Prime Minister K P Oli and President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, a party statement said. The visit comes at the invitation of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

Left parties hold hearing on Rafale deal; Bhushan alleges CBI director 'removed to thwart probe'

BJP activists wave black flags at Ker CM over Sabarimala issue

A group of people, stated to be BJP workers, waved black flags at Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Wednesday protesting the LDF government's decision not to seek review of the Supreme Court order lifting the ban on entry of women in 10-50 age group into Sabarimala temple. Vijayan was returning to Thiruvananthapuram after addressing a convention of the ruling LDF held here to explain the stand of the state government on the women's entry issue when the BJP workers staged the protest at Umayaneloor near Kottiyam in the district, police said. Waving black flags, the group of 10 people raised slogans and attempted to block the Chief Minister's convoy, police said they detained one person in connection with the incident. 'Govt move to remove CBI chief wrong as he has fixed tenure'

: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi Wednesday claimed that the government's move to remove the CBI Chief and his deputy was wrong as the CBI director has a fixed tenure in office. The deadlock continued between the Haryana government and roadways employees, who are on a strike for the last nine days, as fresh round of talks failed Wednesday. The strike would continue, roadways union leaders said after talks failed between the Haryana Roadways union and a high-level government delegation led by Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar. The Congress Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of interfering in the working of the CBI and alleged that its Director Alok Verma was "sacked" to stop him from probing corruption in the Rafale 'scam'. J-K govt approves setting up ACB to tackle corruption

The Jammu and Kashmir government Wednesday approved setting up of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for tackling corruption in the state in an effective manner, an official spokesperson said. The decision to set up the ACB was taken at a meeting of the State Administrative Council, which met under the chairmanship of Governor Satya Pal Malik here. "To tackle and eradicate corruption in the state in a more effective and meaningful manner, the StateAdministrative Council (SAC) gave nod for setting up the first-ever Anti-Corruption Bureau in the state," the spokesperson said. US Secret Service intercepts 2 'potential explosive devices' sent to Obama, Clinton

Two "potential explosive devices" sent to the homes of former President Barack Obama and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton were intercepted and proactively detonated, the US Secret Service announced Wednesday. CBI director's removal illegal: Sharad Yadav

Opposition leader Sharad Yadav Wednesday hit out at the government over CBI Director Alok Verma's removal, saying it is "constitutionally, morally and politically wrong and illegal". He said in a statement that the decision was in violation of rules laid down by the Supreme Court that only a selection commission, comprising the prime minister, the chief justice of India and the leader of the largest opposition party can decide on suspending or removing the CBI chief. Cong announces list of 40 candidates for Mizoram polls

The Congress Wednesday announced the names of all its candidates for the November 28 Assembly polls in Mizoram, where Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla will contest from two constituencies. The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress selected the candidates and the party's general secretary in-charge of the CEC, Mukul Wasnik, made the announcement. Lal Thanhawla will contest from the Champhai South (ST) and Serchhip (ST) seats -- both reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Mizoram is the only north-eastern state and among the few states in the country currently under the Congress rule. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking to oust the Congress from Mizoram. The nomination-filing process will start on November 2 in the north-eastern state and the last date for filing papers is November 9.
