Change those who speak about 'changing' Constitution: Priyanka Gandhi

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday targeted the BJP government in Haryana, and said the people of the state should change those who speak about "changing" the Constitution and "insult" them at every level. In her first poll rally for the October 5 assembly polls, she said the people of Haryana have always protected the country. "Farmers, jawans and sportspersons kept the honour of the country," she said. "The BJP has been in government for the past 10 years in Haryana. What did they give you in return of protecting this honour? They (BJP government) insulted you at every level," she charged. "There is a lot of unemployment here. How many of you got employment," she asked the gathering. Attacking the BJP government over the issues faced by farmers, she said, "You held a protest against them and you got tear gas shells and you got 'lathis. You were not heard". Taking a dig at the BJP government's claim of giving MSP on 24 crops, she said out of those 24, 10 crops are n

BJP using J&K as pawn to stir nation, Cong will restore statehood: Priyanka

The Congress will restore Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Saturday while she slammed the BJP for using the Union territory as a pawn to "stir emotions" elsewhere in the country. Gandhi, the Congress's national general secretary, also criticised Lt Governor Manoj Sinha saying the current administration was a "puppet" government being run with a remote control. "The Congress party has a vision for you and for Jammu and Kashmir. We want to restore your state's status. If our government comes to power, we will immediately restore your statehood. We will also revive the tradition of the Darbar Move," Vadra told a public rally here. Darbar Move refers to the bi-annual shift of government offices, including the secretariat, between Jammu and Srinagar in view of the harsh winter in J-K. "We want to protect your rights, your rights to your land and your employment," said Gandhi while speaking in support of the party candidate in Bishnah, Neeraj ...

Wayanad by-election: Priyanka will win by record margin, says Congress

The Congress in Kerala on Wednesday exuded confidence that party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would win the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, vacated by Rahul Gandhi, with a record margin. Addressing reporters here, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said his party was confident of victory in the high range constituency. He said the party leadership and the workers had commenced preparations for the election, but devastating landslides struck Wayanad district. The Lok Sabha MP said the party usually does not conduct any programmes in such areas. There is no doubt that the workers of the Congress party and the United Democratic Front (UDF) would actively take part in various programmes when the election was announced. "As we said before, Priyanka Gandhi will win the constituency with a record margin," Venugopal said. As per law, the by-poll should be conducted within six months and the period would end this November. "So, we are ready for the election," he said. To a query, the Congress

Rahul Gandhi urges people to visit Wayanad, help revive tourism there

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday urged people to visit Wayanad and experience its beauty, help to revive tourism, rebuild livelihoods and restore its vibrancy. He stressed that while the recent landslide tragedy affected only the Mundakkai area, it has led to a misconception that all of Wayanad has been impacted, causing a sharp drop in tourism. "Wayanad's beauty is undisputed, but it is the compassion and kindness of its people that has always drawn me to it. Today, so many of those people who rely on tourism for their livelihood are looking to you all for help," the former Congress chief said in a Facebook post. "Let me assure you, Wayanad is still vibrant and welcoming, with its spirit unbroken. I urge you to visit and experience its beauty, helping to revive tourism, rebuild livelihoods, and restore its vibrancy," he said. What was need to disrespect senior leader Kharge: Priyanka slams PM Modi

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of disrespecting Mallikarjun Kharge by not replying to the Congress president's letter himself, and said it is unfortunate that leaders in the highest positions have rejected great traditions of democracy. The Congress general secretary said today's politics is full of poison and the prime minister should have set a different example, keeping the dignity of his post in mind. On Tuesday, Kharge had written a letter to the prime minister and raised the issue of "extremely objectionable" and violent statements by the ruling alliance members targeting Rahul Gandhi, urging him to discipline his leaders. In response to Kharge's letter to Modi, BJP chief J P Nadda wrote to the Congress president and cited his party's own litany of complaints against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and other Congress members for their choice of words against the prime minister. Priyanka Gandhi didn't attend Ambani wedding: Congress retorts to claims

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not attend the Ambani wedding and was not even in India at that time, party leader Supriya Shrinate said on Tuesday, dismissing claims made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey in this regard. In a post on X, Shrinate accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP of lying. "Nishikant Dubey told a blatant lie in the Lok Sabha that Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi had attended Ambani's wedding," she said. "This is absolutely wrong, she did not go there at all. She was not even in the country, your Home Minister must know this -- he has an old and bad habit of keeping track of everyone," the Congress leader added. "The MP with a fake degree has a dirty disease of lying but Priyanka Gandhiji is not a Lok Sabha member yet, so taking her name is also a matter of privilege," she said. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday accused the Modi government of preparing to "gag" digital media, social media, OTT platforms and those who write and speak in private capacity by bringing in the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, and said the country will not tolerate such actions. The Congress general secretary shared on X two quotes of Mahatma Gandhi (Young India, 1922) and that of Jawaharlal Nehru (March, 1940) in which they had stressed the importance of freedom of speech and press. "These two examples show that our citizens have not got freedom of speech and freedom of the press just like that. Millions of people have fought for it for years," Priyanka Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X. "Civil liberties and freedom of the press are the great legacy of our martyrs and freedom fighters," she said. In the history of independent India, no government could ever think of crushing the freedom of the citizens, Priyanka Gandhi said. "Today, on one side by the us

Rahul cannot insult Hindus, was talking about BJP: Priyanka Gandhi

As the BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of calling Hindus violent, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said her brother did not insult Hindus, but was talking about the saffron party and its leaders. "He cannot insult Hindus. He said it very clearly. He talked about the BJP, he talked about BJP leaders," Priyanka Gandhi said while leaving the Parliament building along with her mother Sonia Gandhi, after Rahul Gandhi's maiden speech as the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha. Earlier, Gandhi triggered a row when he said those who call themselves Hindus are engaged in "violence and hate" round the clock. His remarks drew massive protests from the members of the treasury benches, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that calling the entire Hindu society violent is a serious matter. Home Minister Amit Shah sought Gandhi's apology, even as the leader of opposition said he was speaking about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "The BJP, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) o
