Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will expand his cabinet on July 4 as five MLAs are expected to be inducted as ministers, said party sources on Sunday. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Punjab Raj Bhawan at 5 pm on Monday, said an official here. It will be the first cabinet expansion of the Bhagwant Mann-led government more than three months after the Aam Aadmi Party stormed to power in Punjab. With the induction of five more ministers, the strength of the Mann-led cabinet will reach 15, including the chief minister. Several names of MLAs, including Aman Arora -- two-time MLA from Sunam, Sarvjit Kaur Manuketwo-time legislator from Jagraon, Baljinder Kaurtwo time MLA from Talwandi Sabo, Budh Ram - two-time MLA from Budhlada, Inderbir Singh Nijjar who is an MLA from Amritsar South and Anmol Gagan Mann, legislator from Kharar, are doing the rounds for the ministerial positions. However, there is no word from the party on the names of MLAs who will be inducted as minister

Punjab houses to get 300 units of free electricity from today: CM Bhagwant

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said his government is fulfilling a guarantee made to people of the state as from Friday each household will be getting 300 units of free electricity every month. The AAP government had earlier announced giving 300 units of free power to every household from July 1. Liquor rates to drop 30-40% in Punjab as Cabinet approves new excise policy

Prices of liquor in Punjab are expected to drop by at least 30 to 40 per cent to be on par with the rates in Union Territory Chandigarh and Haryana, with the state Cabinet of the AAP-led government approving its first excise policy on Wednesday. Chief minister Bhagwant Mann-led government set a target of collecting Rs 9,647.85 crore, 40 per cent up from the revenue mobilised from the liquor business last year. The new excise policy for the year 2022-23 was approved in the state Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister here. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said the policy strives to keep a stringent check over smuggling of liquor from the neighbouring states through extensive enforcement and by incorporating new technological measures.
