The wife of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath on Tuesday said she has a feeling that the Punjab government was playing a game with them in the "assault" case even after the chief minister's assurance. The wife of the Army Colonel, who has accused 12 Punjab police personnel of assaulting him and son over a parking dispute, staged a sit-in protest outside the Patiala deputy commissioner's office on Saturday. She was joined by several ex-servicemen. The protest came a day after the Punjab Police registered a fresh FIR based on the statement of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath. Radical preacher Amritpal Singh's seven associates were on Friday produced before a court here in connection with the attack on the Ajnala police station in 2023 and remanded to police custody till March 25. The seven were released from the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam and re-arrested in another case by the Punjab Police. All seven detainees were produced before the court in Ajnala here under tight security and sent to four-day police remand, officials said. Police here sought the remand on various grounds, including to recover some mobile phones and weapons, and to conduct further investigations. A suspect in the blast incident outside a temple in Amritsar was killed in an exchange of fire with police, a top officer said on Monday. Another suspect managed to flee, he said, adding that efforts were on to nab him. A blast had occurred outside the Thakur Dwara Temple on March 15 when a person hurled an explosive device towards it, damaging a portion of its wall and shattering window panes. The Enforcement Directorate Tuesday said it has attached Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira's house in Chandigarh worth Rs 3.82 crore as part of a probe into a drug trafficking-linked money laundering case against him and some others. An order has been issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on March 8 to provisionally attach the property located in Sector 5 of Chandigarh, the federal agency said in a statement. The asset is worth Rs 3.82 crore, it said. Punjab Police on Sunday conducted raids at 510 locations in an anti-drug drive, leading to the arrest of 43 smugglers, an officer said. In the two days of the drive, 333 such people have been nabbed and 27 first information reports (FIRs) registered across the state. Police also recovered 776 grams of heroin, 14 kg of opium, 38 kg of poppy husk, 2,615 intoxicant tablets and Rs 4.60 lakh in cash from these smugglers, the officer said. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had on Friday set a deadline of three months to make the state drug-free. The state government has also constituted a five-member cabinet sub-committee to monitor action against the scourge of drugs.
