Penalty if passenger's luggage beyond permissible limit: Western Railway

Days after a stampede at the Bandra Terminus here, the Western Railway has said a penalty will be imposed if the luggage of passengers exceeds the permissible limit for their respective travel class and urged people not to overcrowd stations. Each passenger is permitted to carry a certain amount of luggage without charge, but items such as scooters and bicycles, as well as consignments exceeding dimensions of 100 cm x 100 cm x 70 cm do not qualify for the free allowance, the WR said in a release on Tuesday. "Western Railway urges all passengers to avoid overcrowding at stations and to enter premises only as necessary, in accordance with train schedules, while adhering to the established luggage limits," the release stated. The step has taken to reduce congestion on platforms and facilitate smoother movement for passengers within the station premises, it said. Sona Comstar to buy Escorts Kubota's railway equipment biz for Rs 1,600 cr

Farm and construction equipment firm Escorts Kubota Ltd on Wednesday said it will sell its railway equipment business division to Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd for Rs 1,600 crore. The company has entered into a business transfer agreement with Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) for transferring the railway equipment business division (RED) as a going concern, on slump-sale basis, Escorts Kubota Ltd (EKL) said in a regulatory filing. The transaction is being carried out for a lump sum cash consideration of Rs 1,600 crore subject to the terms of the agreement, it added. PM GatiShakti: 208 infra projects of Rs 15 trn recommended for approval

As many as 208 big-ticket infrastructure projects of different ministries, including roads and railways, worth Rs 15.39 lakh crore have been recommended for approval under the PM GatiShakti initiative so far, a top government official said on Saturday. These projects have been recommended by the Network Planning Group (NPG) constituted under the PM GatiShakti initiative launched on October 13, 2021. "So far, 208 projects have been assessed under the initiative worth Rs 15.39 lakh crore," Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Amardeep Singh Bhatia told reporters. There are several benefits of using the system, including significant cuts in time and cost for planning these infrastructure projects, he added. The maximum number of projects recommended by the group are related to roads (101), railways (73), urban development (12), and four from the oil and gas ministry. Loco pilots to hold protest on running allowances, duty hours on Oct 18

The loco pilots unions have urged its members to hold a protest before the office of General Managers of 17 railway zones on October 18 in support of their demands including an increase in running allowance, reduction in vacant posts and regularization of duty hours. The office bearers of these unions said that after their continuous agitation, the Railway Ministry had constituted two high-level committees a few months ago to look into their demands, particularly regarding the fixing of duty hours and periodical rests. "While constituting these two committees, the Railway Ministry had directed that their reports would be submitted within one month. Railways directs zones to take action on officials for wrong train data

The Railway Board has asked all 17 zones to take action against officials who cause inconvenience to passengers by not feeding any data or by providing incorrect data in the passenger information system on the status of trains. The board has also directed the zones to integrate various passenger information display boards installed at stations with the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) to bring consistency and ensure correct and reliable display of train information. The NTES website provides real-time train running status and coach composition among other information. Besides this, train indicator boards installed on platforms display train numbers, their names and running status.
