Evening rain brings relief to Delhiites, max temp settles at 44 deg C: IMD

Delhi's weather experienced a sudden change on Wednesday evening as rain lashed several parts, providing relief to residents from the heat. The weather department has forecast thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph over and adjoining areas, including isolated places in Delhi during the next 2 hours. The maximum temperature in the capital was recorded at 44 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Relative humidity oscillated between 22 per cent and 33 per cent on Wednesday. In Delhi, the other weather stations recorded the following temperatures: Najafgarh 46.4 degrees Celsius, Narela 46.3 degrees Celsius, Aya Nagar 45 degrees Celsius, Ridge 44.3 degrees Celsius and Palam 44.4 degrees Celsius. Bengaluru breaks 133-year record for single day rainfall in June: IMD

Bengaluru received 111 mm rainfall on June 2, breaking the 133-year record for the highest ever rainfall in a single day in June, Met department officials said. N Puviarasan, a scientist at India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru, confirmed to PTI that June 2 witnessed the highest single day rainfall in June in 133 years. He also said the rainfall received on June 1 and June 2 alone 140.7 mm surpassed the monthly average for June. According to 'X' user @Bnglweatherman, as per IMD, June 2 recorded 111 mm, which crossed the June month average of 110.3 mm, in a single day. He further said the highest single day rainfall in June was recorded on June 16, 1891. The intense rain also brought Bengaluru to a standstill at many places, particularly in Jayanagar from where residents posted pictures of fallen trees on social media. EU announces over Rs 2 cr aid for Manipur, hit by hailstorm, heavy rain

The European Union (EU) on Wednesday announced a financial aid of Euro 250,000 (over Rs 22.6 million) to help people hit by a hailstorm and heavy rain in the northeastern state of Manipur in early May. The EU said the aid will be delivered by its humanitarian partner ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) and it will benefit more than 1,500 most vulnerable families. "The European Union has made available Euro 250,000 in response to the recent hailstorm and heavy rain that hit India's northeastern state of Manipur in early May," the EU said in a statement. It said humanitarian aid will provide crucial assistance to those most affected in some of the worst-hit areas. The EU said priority will be accorded to the distribution of food and emergency shelter kits to help affected people whose livelihoods and houses have been damaged by the storm. Cyclone Remal: 4 died, several houses damaged due to heavy rain in Nagaland

At least four deaths and damage to more than 40 houses have been reported in Nagaland in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, a senior official said. A seven-year-old boy drowned at Laruri village under Meluri subdivision following heavy rainfall under the impact of the cyclone, while two other drowning incidents were reported from Doyang Dam in Wokha district on Monday, he said. In Phek district's Rekizu ward, an elderly man was crushed to death after a wall collapsed, the official said. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has received reports of extensive damage to houses and properties from across the state, including Chuchuyimlang village in Mokokchung district, Noksen subdivision under Tuensang district and Awotsakili village in Zunheboto district, he said. Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed for the rescue and relief operation.
