Dalai Lama says Tibet can be in China

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Sunday said that Tibet can remain in China, only if Beijing recognised and respected the region's distinct culture and autonomy.Speaking at a lecture on 'Role of Ethics and Culture in Promoting Global Peace and Harmony' here, organised by Nehru Memorial Museum and Library and Antar-Rashtriya Sahyog Parishad, the Dalai Lama said, "Historically and culturally, Tibet has been independent. China took control of Tibet in 1950 in what it called a 'peaceful liberation'. So, as long as the Constitution of China recognises our culture and Tibetan autonomous region's special history, it (Tibet) can remain there."The event was being held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 82-year-old Tibetan spiritual icon's exile to India.The Dalai Lama also expressed concerns on the ethnic violence against the Rohingyas in Myanmar, calling it as sad and terrifying. Every Hindu is in favour of constructing Ram temple: VHP leader

International General secretary of VHP Dinesh Sharma today said his organisation was committed to the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. He claimed that every Hindu is in favour of constructing Ram temple in Ayodhya but that the matter is pending in the Supreme Court. "Every Hindu is in favour of constructing Ram temple in Ayodhya. TDP MLA Vangalapudi Anita, whose appointment as a board member of TTD had evoked sharp reactions from opposition parties, tonight wrote to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, requesting that it be revoked, as a controversy erupted over her religion. Sikh pilgrims return from Pakistan

FIR lodged over Fb post against minister

Police here registered an FIR after a Facebook post said that Union minister Krishna Raj was "absconding" from her constituency. Yuva Chetna Sangh posted that Krishna Raj, the local MP and Union Minister of State for Agriculture, had gone "missing" after seeking votes in Puvayan area in the last Lok Sabha election. Anyone who knew about her whereabouts should report them so that "proper arrangements" can be made for her "welcome" in 2019, the post said in an apparent reference to the next Lok Sabha election. Boy held for killing mosque functionary with screwdriver

A 17-year-old boy was today detained by police here for allegedly killing a mosque muazzin (functionary) with a screwdriver, an officer said. The incident took place yesterday in an area under Taliya police station. "We nabbed the juvenile for killing Nisar Ahmed (65), who is attached to Akhade Wali Masjid as a muazzin, with a screwdriver yesterday," Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Dharmendra Choudhary said. Muazzin is someone who gives azaan, the Muslim call to prayer. "The juvenile attacked Ahmed when he was sitting on a bench near the mosque. After he was attacked, Ahmed ran towards the mosque, but collapsed to the ground and died on the premises of the mosque," Choudhary said. The incident seems to be a fallout of some domestic matter, he said adding that the teenager is being questioned.
