Karnataka would soon come out with a Research and Development policy that would make R&D an integral part of schools, colleges, universities and even private institutions, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday. "Shortly we will come out with a R&D policy, wherein we want R&D in schools, colleges, universities and private sector institutions as well as we want to encourage garage oriented R&D centres. We want R&D to percolate to that level," he said. Speaking to reporters here, he said it will be a spectrum of different fields, as innovation is limitless. Fintech firm Biz2Credit plans to invest USD 100 million in India over the next 5 years on research and development as well as expanding operations. Foxconn's Bharat FIH opens research, development centre in Chennai

Electronic manufacturing services firm Foxconn's subsidiary Bharat FIH, formerly known as Rising Stars Mobile India, has opened a research and development centre at the IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai, the company said on Tuesday. It will be among the first R&D centres in India to design end-to-end 5G devices and will offer end-to-end services to customers, including product design, tooling and moulding, global sourcing and manufacturing services for smartphones and other products and services in the electronics segment. BPCL's R&D centre bags 80 patents in 20 years; over 50 more pending

State-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has bagged as many as 80 national and international patents in the past two decades, and approvals for 53 more filings are pending, for various innovations including the world's cheapest and the fastest crude oil assaying tool BP Marrk. Its research and development (R&D) centre, located at a 68-acre sprawling campus at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, has won 18 patents in the past 12 months alone. BPCL has an annual budget of Rs 80-100 crore for R&D. "Over the past two decades, we have won as many as 80 patents, and 53 more are pending for approvals. Between July last year and now, we have secured 18 patents," Arun Kumar Singh, director (refineries and marketing) at BPCL, told PTI on Sunday. India's share in the global engineering and research and development (ER&D) market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12-13 per cent to reach USD 63 billion by 2025, according to industry body Nasscom. Speaking at the Nasscom Engineering R&D Showcase 2021 event, Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh noted that the pandemic has altered the way consumers behave, interact with companies, and how businesses interact.
