Sheena Bora case: SC dismisses Indrani Mukerjea's plea to travel abroad

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the plea of Indrani Mukerjea, accused of killing her daughter Sheena Bora, against a ruling denying her permission to travel abroad. A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal directed the trial court to conduct the proceedings in the case within a year and upheld the Bombay High Court order refusing her plea. "There is no guarantee that you will come back. Trial is at an advanced stage. Taking into consideration the fact that the trial is ongoing, we are not inclined to consider the request at this stage. We direct the trial court to expedite the hearing and conclude within a year," it said. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a list of 23 witnesses it would not be examining against former media executive Indrani Mukerjea and other accused in connection with the killing of her daughter Sheena Bora. The CBi in the list that includes Mumbai's former police commissioner Rakesh Maria and other police officials said they would not be examined in the trial as they were "unrelied witnesses". Indrani and her two former husbands Peter Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna are accused of being involved in the killing of Sheena Bora, Indrani's daughter from her first relation. Rahul Mukerjea, son of former media baron Peter Mukerjea, on Thursday denied before a special court here that he knew whether Sheena Bora was still alive. Rahul, a witness in the 2012 Sheena Bora murder case, was being cross-examined by defence lawyers before special CBI judge S P Naik-Nimbalkar.
