Tvesa, Amandeep to battle it out in 12th leg of Hero WPG Tour

In-form Amandeep Drall, who is on a roll with three wins in the last four events, will battle it out with Tvesa Malik in the 12th leg of the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour, starting here tomorrow. In the event beginning at the Hyderabad Golf Club, Amandeep will be hoping to win yet again and narrow the gap with the likes of leader Tvesa and the absent Neha Tripathi on the Hero Order of Merit. Amandeep, who won the eighth, 10th and 11th legs of the Tour, is currently third on the Order of Merit behind Tvesa and Neha. Indian women suffer second defeat in volleyball, lose to Vietnam

The Indian women's volleyball team slumped to its second consecutive defeat at the Asian Games, losing 0-3 to Vietnam in a Pool B preliminary match here today. The Indians gave a good fight to their opponents in the first two sets before losing the encounter 18-25 22-25 13-25 that lasted an over and six minutes. India had earlier lost by the same 0-3 margin against Korea in their opening fixture on August 19. The Indians are lying at the bottom of six-team Pool B and will next play Kazakhstan on Thursday. The two defeats have made life difficult for the Indian women and they would look to return to winning ways for harbouring hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition.

Farmer's son Chaudhary, 'jobless' Rajput bring shooting glory for India

Saurabh Chaudhary, all of 16, today became the youngest Indian shooter to win an Asian Games gold medal as he trumped a field comprising multiple world and Olympic champions in the 10m air pistol finals here. The seasoned Sanjeev Rajput then made the country proud, winning the silver in the 50m rifle 3 positions. Another Indian making his international debut, 29-year-old Abhishek Verma, shot 219.3 to secure bronze in 10m air pistol event. Chaudhary aggregated 240.7 to finish top of the podium and become the fifth Indian shooter to win an Asiad gold. Indian women's handball team suffers fourth loss on trot

The Indian women's handball team suffered its fourth successive defeat to end its Asian Games campaign at the bottom of the group, here today. India lost 19-49 against North Korea in their final Group A match to bow out of the competition without locking any points. The Indian team trailed 10-23 in the first session and the gap widened in the second period as North Korea secured 26 points as against 9 for India. For India, Maninder Kaur, Sushma and Rimpi scored four points each while Nidhi Sharma got three. For North Korea, Choe Pong Im scored 11 points while Kim Chol Sun had 10 in her name. Asian Games: India win first historic bronze in Sepak takraw

India on Tuesday won its maiden medal in Sepak takraw as they settled for the bronze after going down against Thailand 0-2 in the semi-finals of the men's team Regu Event at the ongoing 18th edition of Asian Games.The Indian side had started their campaign on a winning note by registering a 2-1 victory over Iran.The team, subsequently, lost their second match to Indonesia 0-2.Since Iran lost two back to back matches in the competition, India got a direct entry into the semi-final of the competition, ensuring a bronze medal for the nation.The women's Regu team, on the other hand, could only manage to win their opening match 3-0 against Korea before slumping to a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Laos.The team lost their quarter-final clash 0-3 against Thailand which, ultimately, eliminated them from the medal race.India's total medal tally at the ongoing 18th edition of the prestigious event now stands at nine with three gold, three silver and three bronze.

De-recognised federation, lack of funding hurt Indian archers' Asiad preparation:Coach

The absence of a recognised national federation has dried up funding for Indian archers, who did not get enough time to acclimatise to the conditions here ahead of the Asian Games, recurve coach Sawaiyan Manjhi lamented today. Manjhi said the Indian archers should have trained here for a month to get acclimatised to the conditions and also played some test events. But since the Archery Association of India (AAI) is de-recognised, there were no funds for foreign training and competitions for the archers before the Games. "The government does not provide funds to a de-recognised body. Funding is the main issue. We should have come here last year at the same time and train here for at least a month then we would have been in a better frame of mind," Manjhi told PTI. UP CM announces cash rewards for shooters Saurabh Chaudhary, Ravi Kumar

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today congratulated shooters Saurabh Chaudhary and Ravi Kumar for winning the gold and bronze medals in the 10m Air Pistol event at the ongoing Asian Games. The chief minister announced cash rewards of Rs 50 lakh for Chaudhary, who produced an Asian Games record score of 240.7, and Rs 20 lakh for Kumar. The government will also give them gazetted jobs, Adityanath was quoted as saying in a statement. Chaudhary, on attaining the requisite age, will be made a gazetted officer, it said. Uttar Pradesh Sports Minister Chetan Chauhan also congratulated the two shooters and said their performance would encourage others to work hard and achieve high goals. Chaudhary, 16, is the fifth Indian shooter to clinch a gold medal in the Asian Games history, beating a field of multiple world and Olympic champions in the 10m air pistol finals. India today clinched a maiden Asian Games medal in Sepaktakraw despite its men's regu team losing to defending champion Thailand here. The Indian men's regu team lost to Thailand 0-2 but picked up a bronze as both the losing semifinalists are also awarded a medal. India had defeated Iran 21-16, 19-21, 21- 17 in the first match to make a winning start to their campaign. India, however, lost to Indonesia 0-3 in the second Preliminary Group B match of the day but still advanced to the last-four stage and be guaranteed of at least a bronze.

FC Pune City signs England's Matthew Mills

Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Pune City has signed English centre back Matthew Mills to strengthen their defence for the 2018-19 season.
