No regrets for Buffon over referee rant

Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon insists he has no regrets about his outburst against the referee who awarded the late penalty that put Real Madrid into the Champions League semi-finals. "I'd say them all again. Maybe with a different type of language, one that was more civilised, let's say. But the content remains and I stand by all of it," Buffon told Italian television programme "Le Iene". Buffon was sent off for dissent in the final minute of the quarter-final, second leg in Madrid after confronting English referee Michael Oliver over his decision to award the hosts a penalty in time added-on. Satwik-Chirag win historic men's badminton doubles silver at CWG

Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty today claimed India's first ever medal in men's doubles after settling for a silver at the 21st Commonwealth Games' badminton competition here today. Satwik and Chirag lost 13-21 16-21 to Rio Olympics bronze medallist English pair of Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge in a 39-minute men's doubles final at the Carrara Sports Arena. Will always fight for my dad, says Saina

Saina Nehwal today said she has no regrets about "standing up for her father" in the athletes village accommodation controversy ahead of the Commonwealth Games, at the peak of which she threatened to pull out of the event before claiming both the singles and team gold medals. "I don't mind fighting for my dad anywhere. People have written that I put my dad first but it's not the case otherwise I wouldn't have won medals for my country," an emotional Saina said after beating compatriot and top seed P V Sindhu in the final here. Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal's mother, Usha Rani on Sunday expressed happiness at her victory in the women's singles title in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.In Day 11 and the penultimate day of the Games, Nehwal defeated her compatriot P.V. Sindhu by straight games in a high-octane clash to seal a 21-18, 23-21 win in the all-Indian finals to clinch gold in the badminton competition.Rani told ANI, "We are really happy with her victory (Gold medal), she has been working hard for this. Defending champs Pallikal-Chinappa settle for women's doubles silver

India ended their Commonwealth Games campaign in squash with two silver medals after Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa went down fighting in the women's doubles final here today. Pallikal and Chinappa, who had won a historic gold in Glasgow Games four years ago, fell short against the New Zealand combine of Joelle King and Amanda-Landers Murphy losing 9-11, 8-11 in the title clash. The Indians were visibly upset with some of the calls taken by the referees. Pallikal had also questioned the quality of refereeing in the mixed doubles final yesterday when she and Saurav Ghosal lost to Australia's Donna Urquhart and Cameron Pilley to settle for silver. Going by the number of medals, it was India's best ever performance at the Games ever since the sport was introduced way back in 1998. The gold won by Pallikal and Chinappa in 2014 was India's first ever squash medal at the Games. India did not win a medal across four editions from 1998 to 2010.

Newly-crowned World No.1 Kidambi Srikanth let slip the early advantage to settle for a silver medal in the 21st Commonwealth Games, going down to Malaysian legend Lee Chong Wei in the men's singles summit clash here today.
