Pro Kabaddi: 21 players retained by 9 franchises

After five highly successful seasons, the Kabaddi League, India's biggest domestic sporting league, gears up for yet another season of thrilling action, with the announcement of the "Elite Retained Players".The League today announced the name of the players who would continue their association with their respective franchises for the sixth edition of the Pro Kabaddi League, beginning October 19, 2018.Ahead of the sixth season of the IPL, a total of 21 players from the fifth season of the league were retained by their respective franchises.Meraj Sheykh, Pardeep Narwal, Ajay Thakur and Sandeep Narwal are among the elite players who have been retained by the nine franchises.Anupam Goswami, League Commissioner, Pro Kabaddi said, "The League is strongly in favour of team stability and instituting it at a policy level to enable strong team structures. CSK's Kedar Jadhav ruled out of IPL

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), owing to a grade-2 hamstring tear.Jadhav sustained the injury during the team's tournament opener against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.Jadhav batted at the number four spot in CSK's chase but retired hurt, as he felt some discomfort, only to return at the fall of the ninth wicket when his team required seven runs to win from the last over.He then struck a six and a four against Mustafizur Rahman to clinch a thrilling one-wicket win."Him being ruled out is a big loss for us. Pune Open Golf Championship to tees off on Thursday

A galaxy of Indian stars including Asian Tour regulars Chiragh Kumar and Rahil Gangjee, will vie for honours when the Pune Open Golf Championship tees off at the Poona Club Golf Course on Thursday. The tournament which is the sixth event of the PGTI's 2018 season, will see the participation of Ajeetesh Sandhu (a winner on the Asian Tour last year), Khalin Joshi, Rashid Khan, S Chikkarangappa, Himmat Singh Rai and Viraj Madappa. The other prominent Indian names in the field are Shamim Khan (2017 PGTI Order of Merit champion), Udayan Mane, Harendra Gupta (2016 champion), Mukesh Kumar and Shankar Das. PCB officials get visas for ICC meet in India

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi and Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad have been issued visas to attend the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings in Kolkata from April 22nd. Although they were apprehensions that the PCB officials might face difficulties in getting the Indian visas for the ICC meet, apparently behind the doors contacts between the ICC and BCCI have resulted in the visas being issued by the Islamabad based Indian High Commission. Sethi and Subhan will be flying to Kolkata on April 21st for the meetings at which Pakistan's security arrangements and organization of the PSL matches and T20 series against the West Indies in Lahore and Karachi will be discussed, a source in the PCB said. India women's team lose to England by eight wickets

The Indian women's team produced a listless performance with the bat to suffer a crushing eight-wicket defeat against England in the second one-dayer of the three-match ODI series here today. English bowling duo of Danielle Hazell (4/32) and Sophie Ecclestone (4/14) returned with four wickets each to dismiss India for a paltry 113 in 37.2 overs after the hosts won the toss and elected to bat. Smriti Mandhana (42) and Deepti Sharma (26) were the top scorers for India as five batswomen scored in single digits while two of them were out for naught. Chasing 114 for a win, England never looked like in trouble as Danielle Wyatt (47) and Tammy Beaumont (39) shared a 73-run opening stand to take the game away from India. Sindhu fit for CWG singles: Gopichand

Forced out of the gold medal winning mixed team campaign due to an ankle injury, top shuttler P V Sindhu has recovered to be fit for the singles event of the ongoing Commonwealth Games, national coach Pullela Gopichand said today. "She is fine now and will compete in the singles competition," Gopichand said when asked about Sindhu's fitness status after India upstaged three-time defending champions Malaysia in the finals today. "She had an ankle injury, which was not major but we did not want to risk her when Saina was giving us the results we wanted. Now she has recovered and will be there from April 11," he added. Sindhu, who was to captain the side, had sustained the injury during a practice session in Hyderabad before arriving here for Games. She was, however, present on the sidelines during all the matches India played, vociferously cheering the team.

India stun three-time defending champs Malaysia to claim CWG badminton team gold

Axar to play for Durham in County C'ship

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel is the latest Indian cricketer to join the English county cricket bandwagon as he is set to play six Championship (first class) matches for Durham in August. Axar thus becomes the fourth India player after skipper Virat Kohli (Surrey), Cheteshwar Pujara (Yorkshire) and Ishant Sharma (Sussex) to decide to play county cricket. Kedar Jadhav ruled out of entire IPL due to injury

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Kedar Jadhav was today ruled out of the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL), due to a hamstring injury which he suffered in the season-opener against Mumbai Indians on Saturday. Jadhav has suffered a grade two tear, coach Michael Hussey informed. Unfortunately for us, Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. His hamstring scan didn't come back so good. Playing 400 T20 games itself a milestone: Pollard

Kieron Pollard, who has become the first player to play 400 Twenty20 matches, today said he celebrated the milestone by wearing the Mumbai Indians jersey with that number in the IPL lung opener on Saturday. Pollard has so far played 414 T20 games, in which he has scored 8,048 runs, with highest being 89 not out and has also taken 251 wickets. Ankita breaks top-200 barrier, only third female from India to do so

Ankita Raina today became only the third Indian woman tennis player to breach the top-200 rankings in singles as she jumped 15 places to reach a career-best 197 in the WTA chart. The 25-year-old Ankita, who trains with Hemant Bendrey when she is in the country, is the first player to achieve the feat since Sania Mirza put India on the singles map with her remarkable achievements over the years. Suriya Loganathan ran her personal best but that was good enough for a 13th place finish in 10,000m race while shot putter Tejinder Pal Singh Toor took the eighth spot with a below-par show on the second day of athletics competition in the Commonwealth Games here today. Suriya fractionally ran better than her earlier personal best of 32:23.96 as she clocked 32 minute and 23.56 seconds to finish 13th in a field of 19 at the Carrara Stadium tracks.
