India's second stint at the semi-professional World Series of Boxing (WSB) was off to a disappointing start as the team went down 1-4 to three-time champions Astana Arlans in Karaganda City, Kazakhstan. World Championship quarterfinalist Kavinder Singh Bisht (52kg) was the lone Indian boxer to pull off a win as he fetched a split 2-1 verdict over Akniet Baltabayev. The visiting side, christened Indian Tigers in its second coming and owned fully by the Boxing Federation of India, returned to the event, in which boxers compete in five rounds of three minutes each, after seven years. Each tie comprises five bouts and India were being represented by Kavinder, Ankush Dahiya (60kg), Duryodhan Singh Negi (69kg), Brijesh Yadav (81kg) and Parveen Kumar (+91kg). The Indian Tigers replaced Mumbai Tigers, which had pulled out in 2011 due to differences with the then national federation. Pride at stake for Chennai As they face Shillong Lajong

Chennai City are heading into a must-win I-League fixture against Shillong Lajong at the JLN Stadium here tomorrow. After a sensational 2-1 victory over Mohun Bagan in their first game of the year, they have only obtained five points from a possible 21. Head coach V Soundararajan is hoping to gain three points at home for the first time. Chennai City have won two games so far in Hero I-League this season and both have come at away grounds. "The strategy is to win the game. Winning is important for us. We haven't yet won yet in Coimbatore so it is important to win. The fact that we haven't won at home is a drawback. The only problem has been scoring goals," said Soundararajan. The team has been struggling to score goals and have just one goal to their name in the last seven games. French forward Jean Micheal Joachim, who is their top scorer with five goals to his name, is on a dry spell in the attacking third and his coach is hoping to get his pre-match calculations right

'U-19 WC showed the huge gap between India and Pak players'

Known for his scatching remarks, legendary Javed Miandad has said that the recent ICC U-19 World Cup match between India and Pakistan had highlighted the huge gulf in talent between cricketers of both the countries. Terming Virat Kohli as best in the world, Miandad, who appeared in 124 Tests in an illustrious career, rued the absence of players of the India captain's calibre in Pakistan. "Winning and losing is part of the game but when I watched the semi-final I could see the gap between the two teams in terms of game sense, professionalism and system," he told PTI. "One main reason for that is Virat Kohli. He is without doubt the best today. He has the technique and temperament and approach to get runs anywhere. We are not producing players of his calibre for a number of reasons," Miandad said. Lamenting that in the past Pakistan used to produce more world class players than other countries including India, the former captain pointed out that Pakistan cricket was lagging

Dynamos play for pride, Chennaiyin FC look to consolidate

Bottom-placed Delhi Dynamos FC take on Chennaiyin FC with nothing but pride to play for even as the visitors seek to consolidate their position in the top half of the Indian Super League (ISL) standings here tomorrow. The match may not change the fortunes of the home side in the Hero ISL, but it could certainly affect the visitors' chances in the top four. Chennaiyin are currently in third position with 23 points but have a game in hand than the teams above and below them. A victory could take them to second spot, and an unlikely loss will still keep them where they are. In a remarkable coincidence, Chennaiyin have won every alternate game in the last 10 matches. Since they have lost the last game against Bengaluru FC, the pattern would suggest that they will beat Delhi Dynamos a team which has won just two games in the entire season. "The reason is very simple, when the ball is on the ground we play well. We play delinquently, with speed, with control and with good ...

Neroca held goal-less by Aizawl, suffer jolt to title hopes

Neroca FC's title aspirations suffered a jolt as they were held to a goal-less draw by Aizawl FC in their crucial I-League match here today. In a closely contested and tactical match, both sides failed to score even though there were many clear chances. Neroca had two clear chances, one at the stroke of half time, which Nedo Turkovic muffed, and another deep into the match that was wasted by Felix Chidi. Aizawl striker Zikahi Leonce Dodoz had a golden chance to hand his side full three points in the second minute of the stoppage time, but he shot wide. With the draw, Neroca remained on second spot in the league table with 28 points from 15 matches, one point less than table toppers Minerva Punjab. But the crucial point is that Minerva Punjab had played two matches less than Neroca. Each side in the I-League will play 18 matches and Neroca thus have just three matches left. Aizawl, who had lost to Neroca 1-2 in the first leg, remained on sixth spot with 17 points from 13 ...
