Cyient Limited today announced the opening of its global Tower Operations Centre (TOC) at the company's headquarters here. The IoT-enabled TOC provides 24/7 surveillance and remotely monitors all passive assets in cell towers across multiple locations, the company said in a statement. The Internet of things (IoT) is a network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. The TOC's solution architecture enables communication between sensors and an integrated, cloud-based analytics engine to extract and analyse asset data for actionable insights, it said. This results in an increased tower uptime, reduced operational costs, improved site security and intrusion detection, and ensures efficient energy and power management, the release said. Additionally, integrating trouble ticketing, along with field force management, .
Scientists have developed a technique for directly printing metal circuits, to create flexible, stretchable electronics. The technique can use multiple metals and substrates and is compatible with existing manufacturing systems that employ direct printing technologies. "Flexible electronics hold promise for use in many fields, but there are significant manufacturing costs involved - which poses a challenge in making them practical for commercial use," said Jingyan Dong, from North Carolina State University in the US. "Our approach should reduce cost and offer an efficient means of producing circuits with high resolution, making them viable for integrating into commercial devices," Dong said. The technique uses existing electrohydrodynamic printing technology, which is already used in many manufacturing processes that use functional inks. However, instead of ink, researchers used molten metal alloys with melting points as low as 60 degrees Celsius. The researchers have ...
Panasonic Corporation on Thursday announced that it has commercialized USB 3.1 Gen 2-compatible FFC connectors which can achieve a transmission speed of 10 Gbps and it will be starting its mass production from January 2018.This product can also be used as a FPC connector and will contribute to the cost reduction of high-speed data communication devices. The new high-speed data communication standard, USB 3.1 Gen 2, was established in response to the growing demand for higher data capacity and transmission speeds. As the number of compatible devices is anticipated to increase in the future, connectors will become more important since they are key parts in maintaining high transmission speeds and signal quality between boards inside a device."Currently, fine coaxial wire connectors and FPC connectors, which comply with the above standard, are used to connect boards. However, the need for FFC connectors that will enable cost reduction has also become evident," Panasonic said.FFC/FPC ...

NASA has selected two finalist concepts for a robotic mission planned to launch in the mid- 2020s - a sample return mission to a comet and a drone-like rotorcraft that would explore potential landing sites on Saturn's largest moon, Titan. The US space agency announced the concepts following an extensive and competitive peer review process. The concepts were chosen from 12 proposals submitted in April under a New Frontiers programme announcement of opportunity. "This is a giant leap forward in developing our next bold mission of science discovery," said Thomas Zurbuchen, from NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. "These are tantalizing investigations that seek to answer some of the biggest questions in our solar system today," said Zurbuchen. The CAESAR (Comet Astrobiology Exploration SAmple Return) mission will acquire a sample from the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, that was successfully explored by the European Space Agency's Rosetta ...
