Indian telecom services are among the top three globally and efforts are on to further improve them, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Friday. He said that more stringent norms for monitoring quality of service at cell level has been put in place from October 1. "It will not be an exaggeration to say that Indian telecom services are among top 3 nations and our efforts are on to improve them further," the minister said. Telecom regulator Trai has implemented norms that were used to measure quality of services at circle level to cell level. The minister said that telecom operators have submitted first report based on new norms and discussions are on to resolve issues where their quality of service is not as per the benchmark.

Supreme Court defers Vodafone Idea plea on AGR hearing to October 6

The Supreme Court on Friday deferred to October 6 the hearing on a plea of telecom major Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) seeking quashing of the additional adjusted gross revenue (AGR) demands for the period until 2016-17. A bench comprising Chief justice B R Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria was urged by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, the plea, which was listed for hearing during the day, be listed on reopening of courts after Dusshera break. The bench allowed and deferred the hearing to October 6. The VIL has filed a fresh plea against the Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) fresh demand of Rs 5,606 crore relating to the financial year 201617. Earlier, the Centre had said that the efforts were underway to arrive at a resolution with the company. Bharti Airtel on Monday said its anti-fraud initiatives have led to a "significant decline" in cybercrime complaints, citing MHA-I4C data of 68.7 per cent decrease in the value of financial losses and a 14.3 per cent drop in overall cybercrime incidents on its network. The data analysed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) - Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) compares key cybercrime indicators from September 2024 (a period prior to the launch of Airtel's Fraud and spam detection solution) with those from June 2025. "Bharti Airtel today announced that its anti-fraud initiatives have resulted in a significant decline in cybercrime complaints, and that this has been further endorsed by recent information from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) - Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)," the Sunil Bharti-led telecom company said in a release. IIT Hyderabad develops 6G prototypes, targets readiness for 2030 rollout

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad aims to ensure that India is not just a participant but a key player in shaping the 6G technology, which is expected to be rolled out by 2030, Professor Kiran Kuchi, leading telecommunications researcher at the premier institute has said. According to Professor Kuchi, 6G is not merely faster 5G, but will combine ubiquitous high-speed connectivity, urban, rural, indoors, outdoors, and across the land, oceans and skieswith artificial intelligence at its core. IIT Hyderabad stands at the forefront of the 6G journey. With support from various government institutions and departments, the institute has already demonstrated 6G prototypes in the 7 GHz band, advanced massive MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) antenna arrays, and satellite-compliant systems for both LEO (Low Earth Orbit) and GEO (geostationary Orbit) orbits, he added.
