Centre asks all telcos to activate intra-circle roaming in J&K till Sept 2

The Centre has asked all the telecom service providers to immediately activate the intra-circle roaming (ICR) facility in Jammu and Kashmir till September 2, an official communication said. The directive has been passed to the regulatory heads of Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Reliance-Jio and Vodafone-ldea amid a collapse of telecom services in large parts of J-K, leading to a large number of people being cut off as relentless rain for the fourth day caused flood-like situation in the Jammu division. "In view of the prevailing situations due to heavy rainfall and multiple landslides in Jammu and Kashmir, and in accordance with Clause 29.6 of the unified licence and as per the provisions of SOP 2020 for responding to disasters, all telecom service providers are hereby instructed to activate the intra-circle roaming facility for the J-K Union Territory with immediate effect till 23:59 hours of September 2, or till further instructions, whichever is earlier," the disaster management unit of the

The government has approved a permit to Starlink after the company agreed to comply with domestic laws, including security conditions, which bar it from copying and decrypting data overseas and mirroring Indian user traffic on any system set up abroad, Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said. The minister told PTI that security conditions mandate satellite communication providers to set up earth station gateways in India through which communications from satellite to users are routed. He said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) granted a Unified License (UL) to Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited after the US firm agreed to the stipulated terms and conditions of the UL, including security conditions which is applicable to all satcom players. Airtel network down in Delhi, users face trouble making and receiving calls

Bharti Airtel experienced a network outage in the Delhi-NCR region on Monday, with several users reporting difficulties in making or receiving calls. The network service tracking website Down Detector showed that the complaints about the Airtel network started around 3.30 pm and peaked about an hour later. "We are currently experiencing a network outage, our team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services promptly. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused," Airtel social media customer care handle Airtel Cares said. Several Airtel customers, who complained about facing issues with the services, received the same reply from Airtel Cares. Satcom spectrum allocation rules likely to be in place within two months

Rules for the allocation of spectrum for satellite communications services are likely to be in place within two months, a government official said on Monday. The spectrum allocation rules are the last lap that will enable Elon Musk-led Starlink, Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat Oneweb and Jio SES to apply for the radiowaves and start rolling out their services. "Spectrum allocation rules are likely to be fixed in two months. After that, it will be at the discretion of satcom services when they want to roll out their services," the official said. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended that the government should allocate spectrum without auction and through an administrative process-- a move that has seen huge resistance from telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel initially. L&T Technology Services bags $60 million order from US telecom firm

IT company L&T Technology Services on Saturday said it has bagged a multi-year contract worth USD 60 million (about Rs 510 crore) from a prominent US-based wireless telecommunications services provider. Under the agreement, LTTS will deliver advanced network software development and application engineering solutions. "L&T Technology Services wins around USD 60 million software engineering engagement from US Tier-I Telecom Provider," LTTS said in a statement.
