Maitri Setu, Agartala-Akhaura rail link to be operational soon: Tripura CM

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the Maitri Setu in South Tripura and Agartala-Akhaura (Bangladesh) rail link will become operational very soon. The Matri Setu built over river Feni connecting South Tripura's Sabroom with Bangladesh's Ramgarh was jointly inaugurated on March 9, 2021 and Agartala- Nischintapur (Indian part of Agartala-Akhaura rail link) was inaugurated on November 1, 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina. But both connectivity facilities are yet to be made operational. "Election is almost over, and a new government will be formed. Tripura CM to reopen political murder cases, seek legal advice after polls

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said he is considering reopening all political murder cases that allegedly took place during the Left Front regime and would seek legal opinion after the Lok Sabha polls. The Left Front ruled the state for 35 years in two phases - from 1978 to 1988 and 1993 to 2018. "A total of 69 people were killed in South Tripura district alone during the Left Front regime. The number of casualties will be much higher if records of all the districts are put together", he said during an election rally at Banamalipur in Agartala. Tripura govt to bring 7K hectares under palm oil cultivation by 2026-27

The Tripura government has set a target of bringing 7000 hectares of land under palm oil cultivation by 2026-27 financial year, a senior minister has said. At present, palm oil plants are cultivated in 56.35 hectares of land in the northeastern state. "To expand palm oil cultivation in the state, digital mapping was done in 2020 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research. In the process, 1,46,364 hectares of land were identified in the state. "Of that, 7000 hectares of land would be brought under palm oil cultivation by 2026-27," Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said. To tap the potential, the Agriculture department has signed MoUs with Godrej Agrovet Ltd and Patanjali Food Private Ltd under the National Mission on Edible Oil, he said. Around 3 lakh cooperative societies will come up in Tripura over the next five years, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Tuesday, as he urged such organisations to take the lead in generating employment opportunities in the state, especially for women. Besides floating new cooperative societies, the weaker ones will be revived through fund infusion, he said.
