Foreign universities setting up their campuses in India will offer healthy competition to leading private universities in the country, according to several Vice Chancellors, even as they maintained that the "devil lies in the details." The University Grants Commission (UGC) last week unveiled draft norms for allowing, for the first time, foreign universities to set up campuses in India with autonomy to decide the admission procedure, fees structure, and even repatriate funds back home. The Kerala High Court on Tuesday refused to stay the appointment of Kerala technical University vice-chancellor in-charge and said the matter will be heard on Friday. 25% extra seats to be created for foreign students, HEIs: UGC guidelines

Higher educational institutions across the country will now be allowed to create up to 25 per cent supernumerary seats for foreign students and will have to adopt a transparent admission process for them, the University Grants Commission (UGC) said on Friday. The draft "Guidelines for Admission and Supernumerary seats of International Students in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes in Higher Educational Institutions in India" were put in public domain last month for seeking feedback and have been notified now. "HEIs may create up to 25 pc supernumerary seats for international students, over and above of their total sanctioned enrolment for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday declared 21 universities as "fake" and not empowered to confer any degree, majority of which are in Delhi followed by Uttar Pradesh.
