Akhilesh targets UP govt over stray cattle menace, asks for total deaths

Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav on Monday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to reveal the number of deaths due to attack by stray cattle in the past five years under the BJP's rule. Targeting the BJP government in the state, Yadav asked if the party leaders' statements on solving the stray cattle issue before the elections were genuine promises or just political rhetoric. "The BJP government in the state should issue a clarification on the stray cattle issue. How many people were killed or injured due to stray animals during BJP rule? How many of those who died due to stray animals were compensated and how much was given? How many stray animals are there in the cow shelters that have been opened?" Yadav asked in a post on X. Govt sacked over 50 docs, served notices to 724 found absent: UP Dy CM

The Uttar Pradesh government has sacked over 50 doctors and served notices to more than 700 medical practitioners found absent from their place of posting, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has said. He, however, asserted that the shortage of government doctors in Uttar Pradesh will be over very soon as the recruitment of specialist doctors has already started. According to official data, against a sanctioned strength of 19,000, Uttar Pradesh has around 12,000 doctors at government facilities across the state. However, there are of complaints that many doctors do not attend duty at the place of posting. "Over 50 absentee doctors have been sacked and notices served to 724 government doctors found continuously missing from their place of posting," Pathak, who is also in charge of the Medical Health and Family Welfare Department, told PTI in an interview. UP govt planning to establish waterways on 8 rivers for public transport

The Uttar Pradesh government plans to use eight rivers as inland waterways to improve connectivity and transportation of goods, especially bulk cargo such as foodgrains and fertilisers. Senior state government officials said the Yamuna, Gomti, Assi, Ghaghra, Rapti Betwa, Chambal and the Varuna rivers will be used as waterways to transport goods and people. The move is in line with the BJP-led Centre's Maritime India Vision 2030 that envisages increasing the share of inland water transport to five per cent by 2030. SC rebukes UP govt over inordinate delay in filing plea against HC decision

The Supreme Court has rebuked the Uttar Pradesh government over an inordinate delay of 1,173 days in filing a petition against a judgement of the Allahabad High Court and that too with "incorrect particulars", saying a State litigation cannot be taken "so casually". While rejecting the plea with a cost of Rs 1 lakh, the apex court said it has no doubt that such matters are filed in a "cursory manner" so the petitions are dismissed. It also chastised the state government over the "casual manner" in which the application seeking condonation of delay was filed. "We are left with no doubt that such matters are filed in a cursory manner to somehow seek a certification of dismissal by the Supreme Court. We thoroughly disapprove such a practice and feel necessary to impose costs on the petitioners," a bench of Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Hrishikesh Roy said.
