SC rejects plea alleging contempt of demolition order by three states

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea alleging contempt of its order on demolition of properties by the authorities in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A bench headed by Justice B R Gavai and comprising Justices P K Mishra and K V Viswanathan said it was not inclined to entertain the plea filed by the petitioner who was not directly or indirectly related to the alleged act. "We don't want to open a pandora box," said the bench. The court said it will hear those affected by the demolition of properties. The petitioner alleged that authorities in Haridwar, Jaipur and Kanpur had demolished properties in contempt of the apex court's order which had said that demolitions would not be carried out without its permission. The top court had earlier reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions raising the plea that properties, including those belonging to persons accused of crimes, were being demolished in several states. Arguments on plea for Gyanvapi survey completed, next hearing on Oct 25

Arguments were completed on Saturday before a court here on the application seeking a survey through excavation in the entire Gyanvapi complex and an order is likely on the matter on October 25, a lawyer for the Hindu side said here. The advocates of the Muslim side and the Waqf Board, who are opposing the survey, completed their arguments before Civil Judge Senior Division Jugal Kishore Shambhu, Madan Mohan Yadav, who represents the Hindu said, said. After hearing the arguments, the court has fixed October 25 as the date of the next hearing, when it may give its order on this matter, Yadav said. On October 16, the Hindu side had referred to the expertise of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in excavations to buttress its plea to carry out excavations in the Gyanvapi complex. Road accident in UP's Siddharthnagar claims 3 lives, 24 left injured

Three people were killed and 24 sustained injuries after a bus fell into a drain while trying to avoid hitting a cyclist here on Friday evening, police said. The bus, which had 53 people on board, was on its way to Siddharthnagar from Balrampur. They said The incident occurred in the Dhebaruwa area of Siddharthnagar district. According to Superintendent of Police Prachi Singh, the driver lost control of the bus while trying to save a cyclist. However, the bus hit the cycle before falling into the drain near Chargahwa, police said. Two passengers, including a teenager, and the cyclist died in the accident, she said. Information regarding the accident was received at around 6 pm. The local police, with the help of locals, rescued the passengers trapped in the bus. "Three people, including a teenager, died in the accident which occurred when the driver tried to avoid hitting a cyclist," she said. Bahraich violence: 5 suspects held after encounter with UP police

Five suspects in the Bahraich violence case were arrested here Thursday after an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police in which two of them suffered gunshot injuries, a senior official said. The accused were allegedly trying to flee to Nepal, which shares a border with Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, the officer said. "Five accused have been arrested," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash told a news channel. On the encounter, he said, "I have information of exchange of fire and gunshot injuries." Yash, also the chief of the Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh Police, said the Bahraich police, investigating the murder and subsequent violence, has already established the link of one of the accused in Nepal. Police nab UP teen for selling over 4,000 child pornography videos

Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday apprehended a 17-year-old boy here for allegedly selling over 4,000 child pornography videos online, officials said. The accused, who earned a 30 per cent commission on each sale, obtained the videos through Telegram from a supplier named "Raj", police said. The matter came to light after the cyber police department in Gorakhpur received a tip-off from a volunteer organisation, they said. A police team launched a probe and seized the accused's mobile phone after nabbing him on Thursday, they added. During interrogation, the teenager admitted to using one Nekogram mobile application and Telegram to distribute the videos, said Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover. The SSP added, "The accused charged customers up to Rs 3,000 per video, with some videos priced as high as Rs 20,000.
