Kerala Youth Congress polls: Case registered against use of fake voter IDs

A case has been registered based on the complaints filed against the alleged use of fake voter ID cards during the Youth Congress organisational polls, Kerala police said on Saturday. Police said a comprehensive probe will be conducted into the allegations and a special investigation team comprising eight members have been formed in this regard. Police have registered an FIR invoking various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document). Thiruvananthapuram DCP, Nithin Raj told the media that the alleged mobile application used for creating the fake IDs, its developer, and other relevant matters will come under the probe. Karnataka poll machinery to be vigilant against influencing voters: EC

The Election Commission has directed its chief electoral officer in poll-going Karnataka to ensure constant monitoring of ground situation and strengthen vigil over various social media platforms for prompt action against attempts to bribe or intimidate candidates and voters, sources said on Saturday. The Commission's directive came after an audio clip was circulated on social media about an alleged attempt by BJP candidate from Chamarajanagar, V Somana, to influence Mallikarjuna Swamy alias Alur Mallu of JD (S) to withdraw candidature by offering money and a government vehicle, sources said. An FIR has been filed in the matter under Section 171E and 171 F of IPC in Town Police Station, Chamarajanagar, they said. These sections deal with punishment for bribery and undue influence. Man arrested for hacking EC's portal for issuing voter cards: Police

A 30-year-old man was arrested in Jharkhand's Palamu district on Tuesday for allegedly hacking the Election Commission's portal used for generating voter identity cards, police said. Mukesh Kumar was arrested from Karso village in Chaonpur police station area on a complaint from the EC, they said. He was interrogated by several officers, including Palamu's Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan, officials said. A team of half dozen investigators, comprising police officers and civil officials, are probing the case, they added. The arrested is suspected to be part of a network that has links in several districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, officials said. The EC had informed the Palamau district administration that the URL used for generating voter identity cards from a Customer Service Point (CSP) in Chaunpur's Karso area was hacked and fake voter identity cards were made, they said.
