Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat Saturday said the international community knew about the role of Pakistani terrorists in the Mumbai terror attack and that India did not want anyone's acknowledgement about it. An altercation over a badminton match snowballed into a clash between two groups at Muchibazar area in the city and two persons have been arrested in connection with it on Saturday, police said. Search is on for the others named in the FIR lodged by the police in the incident. Police said the altercation over the badminton match took place on Friday night and led to the clash between the two groups. While one group ransacked several shops and houses immediately after the incident, another group retaliated the next morning. Several shops were ransacked and a house used for ceremonies and social functions and a godown were vandalised on Saturday morning, he said. An encounter broke out Saturday between militants and security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar - the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the evening near the Srinagar-Bandipora road in Mujgund area on the city's outskirts, a police official said. As the forces were conducting searches, the militants fired upon them, he said. The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter, the official said. Naxals have killed a former rebel who became deputy sarpanch of his village after surrendering to the authorities in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district two years ago, police said Saturday. Manku Potai was shot dead by ultras late in the night on December 6 on the outskirts of his village, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla told PTI. The 39-year-old was active as a Maoist militia member and had surrendered before the police in 2016, Shukla said. "Potai was shot in his head from point-blank range that left him dead on the spot on the outskirts of his village Kalepal under Benoor police station limits," he said. As per preliminary information, Naxals had called Potai to the forest adjacent to his village, located around 350km from the state capital Raipur, Thursday night, he said. Security forces have eliminated over 230 militants in Jammu and Kashmir this year so far, while there has been a dip in injuries caused due to stone pelting, officials said Saturday. As many as 51 terrorists were killed in the 80-day period from June 25 to September 14, while 85 terrorists were killed between September 15 and December 5, an official said. A total of 232 militants have been killed so far this year, while 240 militants, including foreigners, are active in the Kashmir Valley, the official said. Eight people, including security personnel, were killed and 216 others, including security personnel, received injuries between June 25 and September 14 this year. In the subsequent 80 days -- from September 15 to December 5 -- just two people were killed and 170 others received injuries during stone pelting incidents, the official said.
