Four militants killed in Kashmir (Third Lead)
Four militants were killed and eight security personnel injured in two separate gun battles in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
J-K: 9 Security personnel injured in Kakriyal encounter
At least nine security personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police, were injured in an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Jammu's Kakriyal village.Speaking to media, IGP (Jammu) SD Singh Jamwal informed, "Nobody is seriously injured. However, we have given them medical aid."Amongst those injured were Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans also.More details are awaited.Earlier in the day, an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Baramulla district's Sopore area.

The death toll has risen to 11 with another 44 people hospitalized after a man allegedly drove an SUV deliberately into a crowd in central China before jumping out and attacking victims with a dagger and shovel, local authorities said Thursday. The Hengyang city government said the suspect in the case had previous convictions for crimes including drug trafficking, theft and assault and, acting alone, had sought to "get revenge on society." That appeared to rule out terrorism, although vehicles have previously been used in attacks blamed on militant Muslim separatists from the Uighur ethnic minority group. Police identified the suspect as 54-year-old Yang Zanyun from Hengyang's Hengdong county in the largely agricultural province of Hunan. Rijiju asks police officers to remain calm in tense situations
Police officers must be calm, refrain from profanity and empathize in tense situations, Union minister Kiren Rijiju said here on Thursday. Addressing the 25th annual conference of DGP, IGP and heads of central police organizations of North East region at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre here, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs said people expect a lot from the police. So they tend to be more demanding and abusive towards the police, he said. "Police can play positive role in promotion of tourism by conducting themselves in decent and helpful way," Rijiju added. The two-day convention would deliberate on improving law and order situation in the region and formulating strategies to deal with new challenges. 2 JeM terrorist killed, 8 security personnel injured in encounter in J&K's Reasi district
Two Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist were killed and eight security personnel, including a DSP, injured Thursday in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, police said. Security forces, during a cordon and search operation, zeroed in on a location near a house in the district's Kakriyal area, and surrounded the terrorists, officials said. The encounter broke out as the security forces, comprising CRPF, police and Army personnel, closed in on them, they said. Security forces used drones and choppers in the operation, which was launched Wednesday to track three JeM militants, aged between 18 and 22 years, the officials said. Two terrorists were killed and eight security personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohan Lal, injured, police said. Five CRPF personnel and three policemen were injured during the operation, they said. They were admitted to the Narayana hospital in Katra. Nigeria troops repel fresh Boko Haram base attack
Soldiers have thwarted another Boko Haram attack on an army base in northeast Nigeria, the latest in a series of offensives against military targets in the remote region. Scores of fighters attacked the base in Damasak, in the far north of Borno state, on Wednesday evening, firing heavy artillery in an apparent bid to overrun it. Hours of fighting ensued but the attack was repelled with the help of aerial support, military sources in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, told AFP on Thursday morning. Two Pakistani militants, including the mastermind of an IED blast in which four policemen lost their lives earlier this year, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. 250 TN fishermen chased away by SL Navy
Nearly 250 Tamil Nadu fishermen were allegedly chased away by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel while they were fishing off Neduntheevu, a fishermen association leader said Thursday. The Lankan Navy personnel also snapped fishing nets of 10 boats. The incident occurred Wednesday night when the fishermen from this island town were fishing near Neduntheevu and the Sri Lankan Navy men came to the spot in two boats and drove them away at gun-point, Rameswaram Fishermen Association President P Sesuraja alleged. Following this, all of them returned to shore this morning without a catch, he said. On August 10, a total of 27 fishermen from Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram districts were arrested by the Lankan Navy on the charge of fishing in the island nation waters.

6 injured in clash in UP's Shamli district
At least six people were injured in a clash between two groups over the construction of a wall in Shamli district's Gangeru village, police said Thursday. The incident took place Wednesday in an area under the Kandhla police station. Members of both the groups attacked each other with lathis and sharp weapons. They also resorted to brick batting, Station House Officer Anil Kumar said. The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Search operation continued in Jhajjar Kotli for the second day after terrorists, who were travelling in a truck, opened fire at a forest guard yesterday and fled the spot.The area has been cordoned off.Meanwhile, a family has claimed that the terrorists, who were hiding in the area, had come to their home at around 9:00 pm yesterday and asked for food, water and clothes. The family also said that the terrorists had asked them the way to Kashmir and offered money and even threatened to kill them.A forest guard got injured after terrorists opened fire at Jhajjar Kotli along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Wednesday.The terrorists, who were travelling in a truck, opened fire at the victim after the police intercepted the truck on the national highway.
